TUBB REM 700 BDL SPEEDLOCK DUO SPRING ASSEMBLY

  1. SHORT FIRING PIN on the TUBB-SUPERIOR SHOOTERS SYSTEM duo-spring firing pin w/ bolt shroud assembly.

Has anyone else experienced this issue with their Rem 700 BDL?

I purchased this upgrade for my 1976 Remington 700 BDL (not a J-Lock) in .30-06.

I'm a loyal and long time customer and advocate for Mr. Tubbs, after joining 6br and reading so much about him. Although I don't know him personally, have a great respect and admiration for him due to his competitive accomplishments, attention to detail and visionary ingenuity.
I'm a perfectionist and was drawn to what I perceived as a similar trait in him.
After reading the following quote from the product description, I was encouraged and assured there would be no problem with the upgrade:

("drop-in" replacement assembly is complete and ready for installation in any correct-length Remington action, J-Lock or not.)

After a long rainy winter and COVID-19 restrictions, one sunny day and 100 mile round trip to the range, I was unable to shoot due to zero primer strikes...not even a primer tap!

After replacing the firing pin assembly with the original, primer strikes were fine.
Measurements using my calipers showed a difference in length of (0.081") 81 hundredths of an inch from the bolt shroud face forward to the tip of the firing pin. That's 5/64" to 3/32" shorter than the stock factory assembly!!;)
No wonder the firing pin wasn't even coming CLOSE to the primer! That severely effects "LOCK-TIME".

I have contacted Hunter & Katie and am awaiting return call from Mr. Tubbs in hopes of working with him to correct this problem. Hunter eluded that others had reported the same issue and I am hopeful to find a remedy, so that all of us with the Rem 700 actions may continue to benefit from this technology.

Thanks for your input and reply,

    RMC

Mr Tubb will make your order right- he runs a great company.
Be sure to keep your old assembly so you can swap it back if needed. That would have saved your trip- always carry spares
