Tubb 2K Price Increase--Act Quickly

Forum Boss

Administrator
Folks,

I just received this email from Dennis DeMille, GM of Creedmoor Sports:

DATED: 8/24 11:20 AM Pacific
Here is a piece of information you might be interested in. Our [wholesale] price for the T2K just went up $970. That means that the new retail price will be $4,520 plus shipping. HOWEVER, the next ten customers will get the old price of $3,550. If you've been considering getting a T2K I'd say you have about 5 days to buy one at the old price.

This rifle just became an investment.

For that price I think I would go with a Tikka M 595 with Mac Tilton smithing it up. These are suppose to be great x-cross rifles.

I know people love them...seen them at Bodines...but then again shooting against Mr. Sanders you'll be looking at 2nd place most days.

RHINOUT!

20% price hike.

Ouch.

Thought the point of CNC machining was to maintain exacting tolerances w/o the time consuming, and expensive) hand fitting. These things have gone up 150% over the last five years. Either they were grossly underpriced to begin with...

Yes - I remember when they were a tad over $2000... Seriously considered one at that point. That price didn't last long... My thought at that time was to replace both my Cloward Model 70 XC/long-range rifle and my Rem 700 "tactical" rifle with the Tubb. It made quite a bit of sense then, but less now. Much as I like the Tubb, I'm just not a serious enough competitor to justify the cash outlay. I'll just keep re-barreling the two I've got now, as needed.

If they had them on hand, loads worked up, and known performance potential listed by serial number...I'm sure many would be a bargain even at that price.
It's an awesome rifle. I just think that for so much, customers should know up front exactly what it'll do. Then, they should be able to bid on them, and if won, recieve it directly instead of 1.5yrs.
Utopia...

Seem to recall that McBros builds about 100-200 Tubb rifles each year. Receivers are EDM'd in house, other parts may be in-house product or manufactured by outside sources.

Even though parts are CNC'ed, assembly is all by hand, in a fairly small shop. Final fitting is required, since CNC codes aren't 100% perfect - the extraction cam area in the receiver is a prime example.

One final thought - have any of you checked the price of raw materials over the last two years? Prices for raw materials have increased significantly during this time, especially specialty alloys. A TUBB 2000 uses a lot of high grade alloys,8620 and 17-4PH steels, anodized 6061 aluminum).

JMHO but the reason that Creedmor is stickin it to ya is cause they can. Last time I checked, If you wanted a Tubb gun, you could get it only from Creedmor.............

Tightneck,

I understand what you're saying, but I was just talking to Dennis DeMille of Creedmoor today. They'd much prefer to keep the old pricing, but it is there wholesale cost which has gone through the roof.

FWIW, it was nice of him to tell our Forum members about the last remaining rifles at the old price. Dennis said all but one of the last ten were sold as of this morning, and this was the only internet site that released the info.

Actually... I hate to burst your bubble that this site alone was responsible for selling over $40k worth of guns... but it was reposted by somebody, not me) on at least one, maybe more, forums more directly related to XTC shooting, i.e. the 'target' market. They don't generally have as much in the way of commercial ads so this might have been a more logical place in some ways.

Milanuk--

Well, that makes some sense. I had just asked Dennis and he told me this was the only site to which he released the info. But as you pointed out, the word must have got out pretty quick via the Web grapevine.

Undoubtedly, people will start making there own "tube guns". I expect the number of tube stock manufacturers will double now.

Tightneck,
I was hoping nobody would jump to the conclusion you have. Yes, you're right, we've been the exclusive T2K dealer since January 1st of this year, which gave us the ability to raise the price to whatever we thought the market would bear. Currently the waiting list for a T2K is 8 months. Which tells us the demand is greater than McBros'ability to produce them. So yes, maybe we would have been justified in raising the price drastically - we didn't.

But this is a legitimate price increase which came directly from McBros, we just passed it on. McBros, after all these years, decided to figure out what it actually costs them to produce a T2K and discovered they were losing hundreds of dollars on each rifle. But because they manufacture many other high dollar guns the loss was absorbed/hidden. Since they are a business they did what they had to do, and since we are a business we did what we had to do. Any of you that are in the sales business will understand this will HURT our sales and our bottom line. But please don't think we are trying to stick it to the customer. In a market as small as ours you can't screw people and get away with it. That word gets around to nearly everyone, and nearly overnight. The same is true for false information. So please, give us the benefit of the doubt. If you want verification you should call McBros. We already told them to get ready to defend us.

If it were up to me I would have been selling them for much less so EVERYONE who shoots a bolt gun would want one.

Just thought you should know.
