Trying a different bullet in my 6.5 Swede

Ok gang, I'm trying to work up the best load for MY 6.5x55 using the newest weight offered by Barnes' in the triple shock. Anyone tried it? It's not too bad right now...just trying various seating lengths for the best in accuracy. This is a Sako Finnlight barrel (22 1/4" I think) with an 8" twist using all of the right components...Lapua, 210m, 47gr RL22. What COALs has worked for you? Thanks.

:) Here's a partial answer to my own question from yesterday. As Barnes recommends, I started with short OALs. I shot groups using a .060" jump then down to .050" and so on. When I got to an OAL of 3.030" which in my rifle is a .035" jump, The groups shot like I was hoping for. This morning I printed two identical 3 shotters each measuring .385" which I believe to be very good for this little featherweight class barrel. I misquoted the length as 22 1/4" but upon checking it is just 21 1/4", S/S fluted with a fresh target crown cut. It wears a 6x24-50 Hawke Ballistics Nite-Eye. This 130gr Barnes Triple Shock works super in this 8" twist tube. Thanks.

Sounds like you have a winner as I have a ruger 77 mark11 in 6.5x55 myself. I am going to try this as well when winter lets up in downstate new york.I live near the fingerlakes and lake ontario and we have been pounded lately.

Thanks Jon. If you reload, have you has any success with 140gr bullets ? I've tried many brands and never really got any of them "dialed in". This rifle is wicked good with any 120gr, so I was very happy to hit on this 130gr potion. Should be able to get a 140 to shoot with the 8" twist but maybe it's a little hampered because it's rather short. This was a box stock WinMod 70 Featherweight in .270 and accuracy didn't come with it in the box! So with a stack of new take-offs at my friends Sako shop (he builds 6.5-284s) I had him stick the Swede barrel on. These rock !! and I firmly believe everyone should have at least one. Modern actions make this caliber very potent if you weed out all of the load data meant for the old mausers. Good luck when you try the 130 TSX this spring.
