trusted Gunsmith in SoCal?

Does anyone know of a trusted Gunsmith in a Southern California area? I'm not talking Joe's Gunshak down around the corner who installed my cousins scope on backwards and glued his recoil pad on with Elmers glue. I'm looking for top notch gunsmiths.

If you want it done in a reasonable amount of time and by a Hall Of Fame Benchrest competitor take it to Gary O'Cock.

Bob Brackney also does first rate work.

Some of these guys are horribly slow and are often times recommended by shooters who have not used there services.

Gary O'Cock's contact info is in the gunsmith section on this website.

MT Guns, Santa Barbara, CA. Everyone in the place is a competitor - either Long Range or Benchrest. They have done four or five barreling jobs for me that were flawless and shot great. Nothing they can not handle.

Superlight93 and NDShooter
The original poster stated Trusted gunsmith.Have either of you had your recommended gunsmith build you a gun? What was the turn-around time?

Thank you all for the info. At least now I have somewhere to go that can handle accuracy work. But I do have one question, will all of these guys also work on AR's? And if barreling an AR different form a standard long rifle?

I need some work done on a long rifle which is my main concern but I am also planning on building a new upper and would want somebody to do the brl.

Jim Grunning gunsmith
He is in SO Cal. Riverside county

Jim is one of the best for both rifles and AR's
Give him a try.-

So which of the above listed Gunsmiths are in SoCal? Just so I don't drive myself crazy trying to find someone that is actually in another state. As for turn around time, faster would be appreciated but not mandatory. But I also don't want to have to wait 1-2 months for him to get something done.

I am looking for a smith that can work on AR's and one that can work on regular long rifles. One that can or I should say will do both would be great.

I live near Pasadena CA. Closer would be great but I will drive a further distance for a better gunsmith. I have had bad luck with going to the closest shop near home in the past. As noted by some of the creative gunsmithing in my OP

Thanks thud, I will give em a call. Riverside is 45 minutes away.

Use the Postal Service as your about 350 miles from two of the very best.If you lived in Blythe you'd only be 2 hours away. For those unfamiliar Southern,Cal is a vast area.

If you can only wait 1 or 2 months like I suspected you have excluded a large number of gunsmiths.

Like I also suspected shooters will give you a recommendation without ever using there recommended choice.I see it all the time.

Gary Ocock and Bob Brackney are in the Greater Phx area or just west of it.

AZ is not really a problem since I hunt there often. I could drop off the rifle on one hunt and pick it up in time to test out on the next.

Thanks Lynn, For this project I am looking for accuracy on a hunting level. Not the Benchrest level. I am looking for Sub MOA but not the type of work that would be required for a Benchrest rifle. So I am wondering if that changes some of the recommendations on the Gunsmiths mentioned.

The point I am getting at is you get great turn-around with Gary and his cost will be very reasonable. You get top of the line work done for the same price or less than a neighborhood gunsmith would charge you.

PM me anytime and we can discuss gunsmiths whom I have actually used.

Thanks Lynn,

I actually recognize Gary's name form somewhere. I have been out of shooting for about ten years so it would have to be from before then. So he has had to of been around for awhile for me to know the name. Which is a good thing. Thanks for the info. I will PM ya when I get to the point of needing a smith.

Don Nielson does very good work.

He is also selective about the project he works on, so he may or may not work on your gun.

He has done some small site-related projects with very fast turn-around.

Gary Ocock does very good work, but he is not in California.
He is listed as a recommended gunsmith -- that speaks for itself.
As far as turn-around, please send PM regarding our experience on an Ocock build.
