truing remington 700 receivers

What some failed to comment on in my OP, was the fact that if truing receivers on a lathe is the best way, then why do the USMC precision weapons folks true their m40 series receivers with the manson set up and not the lathes they have? Must be a pretty decent set up

Well, my perspective is that USMC snipers are trying to hit a man-sized target where we're trying to get into a 3 inch X-ring.

They asked the right Dave?

The other one is a crook.

If just hitting a man sized target was just the case then they would be fine with a commercial off the shelf rifle.

Also, which Dave is a crook?

Soooo gents,

CM should not true receivers for $50

CM could pursue this as a hobby

CM needs more formal training / mentor ship if he wanted to make this a busines

Don't make a hobby a business or you could end up miserable??

Does that sum up what CM asked?

I think I'll be done here. :)

No need to be done! This has been a civil discussion. I think some are right about the hobby/business part. I shouldnt have said the business venture part as it really isnt. More hobby than anything. I guess one could call the small sum a donation?

well, I did my first receiver and needless to say, I enjoyed doing it. the manson kit worked really nicely. the bolt lugs weren't too bad, as both lugs made contact but the lugs were almost wavy with high and low spots.

truing action is not a just do job , buy a CNC action there perfect , Just open the box and screw on the barrel, done. TL Technologies markets these receivers through Lyons Gunsmithing @jyons1@comcast.net They retail @ 650.00 incuding pic rails, SS follower, oversize lug, Controlled round feed Reminton footprint long an short versions
So you're the guy(s) building TROP/ HiTech actions.........

He is T L tech
Sorry Ggmac but he is NOT TL Technologies, far from it. Sorry i chimed in so late but i just started reading this post. TL is owned by Chris Leh & John Thompson, both excellent in their trade! The 704 action was designed by Ed Brown of 1911 fame! An excellent action by design, with an extractor pulled from the M-1 Garand and added to a bolt action, ingenious. I got TL involved in the 704 project 4 years ago and continue to build rifles on that action. We are also making improvements to the current design. Stay tuned!

Hey Whisper,
TL Technologies was the 1st to produce the 704 for Legendary Arms Works back in 2014. They produced several thousand and are of EXCELLENT quality. TL is not a gunsmithing nor gun assembly operation, they are a high end CNC machine shop. LAW abandoned TL because of $$$$ issues. That left TL with an inventory of parts to move. Mr Lyons saw an opportunity to sell some of the actions they add in inventory. He was never a part of any design, manufacture, assembly or improvements to the 704 action! LAW rifles were of excellent quality, there was a barrel (chamber issue) that caused the accuracy issues that were on many sights. Someone said these current actions are not of the quality of the LAW or earlier Ed Brown actions, COMPLETE BS !!!! They ARE the left over LAW inventory, very accurate machining. I measured 20 random receivers yesterday, face of action to lug seats or (abutments) the extreme spread from top lug to bottom lug was .0001 thats 1/10th of a thousands, that is called perfect! It would take longer to clean the lapping compound from the parts than to lap the lugs, unnecessary for sure. I'm sure there will be comments on this and that is fine. Having 5000 custom builds( bolt actions from the ground up) and 2700 at LAW in my history, qualifications to answer any ?'s about this subject I have.

Ok thanks for the response. I purchased one recently so I wasn’t sure of the relationship with TL and mr. Lyons. Thanks for the clarifications

Have your smith measure the lug seats before anything is done to the action. the reason I measured those 20 yesterday was because of a call from TL saying there was a problem with measurement from top lug to bottom! if the lugs were lapped before you received it there very well my be an discrepancy. If they are not right PM me.

Not a problem. I have seen some things on other sights as well and just wanted the truth to hit these pages. I'll make the rounds to the other sites to clarify what is true or not. Thanks for the apology. it was not necessary but for sure appreciated!!!!!!
