tru-oil

I have applied tru-oil on a laminate stock and it looked great. But while I was hunting it rained and the wood grain raised in a few different spots. Should I sand and re-apply tru-oil or sand down to bare wood and start over with something else and what? I also free floated a barrel on another gun and used tru-oil to seal the barrel channel, now i am worried if it is sealed good. I also applied several coats of wax to the stock before I went hunting.

Tru-oil instructions call for several coats. If you have not done this you need to.

fish,
rough it up with some 0000 steel wool and wipe down, the recoat with true oil...repeat over and over. I applied 13 coats total to my .308 bedded match M1 in a blonde stock. I did the inside and out since I am always getting rained on...give me a real email address and I will sent ya a pick. good luck.
Cheers,
Doc

I applied probably 5 bottles of tru-oil the first time hitting it with 0000 steel wool between coats then had a gunsmith pillar bed it and he got bedding all over it and beat it all up,I hunted with it last year and the grain raised up, I figured he used some solvent to get some of the bedding off so I sanded it down and re sealed it with at least six coats and wax and the grain raised in the same areas as before. So I guess tru-oil does not penetrate very deep on a laminate stock.
Thank you for the input.

Sand it down and have it clear coated, that should seal it from everything. I love tru oil on walnut but it may have a problem with a laminate soaking into the wood.

i have been finishing wood for many years & tue-oil will not do the job, this stuff will--( DALYS SEAFIN TEAK OIL );;;; sand the finish in until you fill the grain & then hand rub as many coats as you want to get a satin or gloss. This stuff is really water proof good luck Craig

I'll second Seafin Teak Oil. Great finish for wood/laminate stocks.

Waterlox tung oil with phenolic resin. Period.

Now if you want a perfectly clear finish it either needs to be a water born finish or automotive clear coat.
