trouble necking down 22 hornet HELP PLEASE

I am trying to make 17 hornet out of 22 hornet. not a pretty sight. I have used case lube and then slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwly screwed the sizing down a quarter turn at a time and am still getting wrinkles in the top of the neck. I have Hornady fl dies. Does anyone make a neck die to neck 22 hornet down to 20? that would be a start the I could go from 20 to 17 I think. Suggestions would be most helpful.

You might try annealing them first. The hornet is a thin walled little beast, I have a 17K hornet and have had the same problem. Good luck.

Bullberry barrells, www.bullberry.com, makes a die that sizes the neck down from .22 to .20 caliber. Then you flip it over and it sizes the neck down to .19 caliber.
From there you can proceed with your .17 Hornet die.

Once I started using the bullberry die, my success rate was about 97%. Before the bullberry - about 50%

Try using as little case lube as you possibly can. I'm working thru sizing a batch of Remington 308 BR brass down to 6XC using a 6.5x47 FL die for the shoulder-push. Turns out wiping off most of the RCBS2 liquid lube once the neck's down to 6.5 works best for moving shoulder.

I do the same thing, screwing die in 1/4 turn several times but before I hit on wiping each case with a 3" patch I was getting shoulder wrinkles galore. Seems there's enough lube on the die from the neck-reducing strokes, not wiping cases left too much on & it causes the wrinkles.

When I did a batch of Lapua Palma brass a few years ago (MUCH tougher as the case wall is thicker by half) I found the wrinkles don't really hurt anything, they get ironed out after a few firings.

From the Redding Site- 17 Ackley Hornet From 22 Hornet

90500 17 Ackley Hornet Form #1 $77.70
83500 17 Ackley Form & Trim Die $96.00
11514 #14 Extended Shellholder $21.00

I know it's for the AH but should work nicely for the HH. I'm not sure when the extended Shellholder is needed. I have formed hundreds for my .17 AH and never used it. Perhaps a different press would require it.

this may be strange, but its the only way it works for me,
ex. my rcbs seating die with the seater removed makes a great 1st step sizer die, try it!!
