Trimming a large Barnes solid bullet?

How would you trim the length of a Barnes solid bullet and keep it consistent?

I have some heavy .458 Barnes solid bullets that I want to trim down some so I can load them for 45-70.

I have cut off .25" with a hack saw and then cleaned them up with a file and they actually shoot OK at 100 yards I just want to make it more consistent.

Ideas??

A lathe with a 29/64" collet or a bored soft collet. Either one can be set with a stop and make quick work of it, easily holding <±.002".

HA! That's why I love this forum... guys actually cut bullets with hacksaws, and more importantly, the 'cut bullets' actually work! Good stuff!

To go along with what sleepygator said... Harbor Freight sells a small lathe for cheap (especially wen it's on sale)... may be something you want to check out if you're serious about it.
