Trimmer Advice.

I know there are many available options out there but I am currently using the Lee Trimmer set up and sometimes the Lee Zip Trim. I am looking for something a little better at this point.

I currently reload for 223 (plinking) and 308 for F/TR. I would probably be willing to go up to around $200 on the budget. I have been told to keep saving for Giraurd but I just dont do the volume to justify for $450 on a trimmer.

All advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

the wilson trimmer , you can add base , micro adj to fit your budget. I use the wilson trimmer with the sinclair fin base (with out the micro adj)

Remember, a Giraud trims and deburrs, inside and out, in one pass and very quickly. All F-Class shooters should have one.

The Wilson is by far the cream of the crop. You do not need the micrometer attachment. Mine doesn't and do not see the need.
You can look up Mr Bob White at www.shootersupply.com and get a used and good condition ANYTHING for a lot less than new. That's where mine came from. Set it once and leave it. I made a small wood base for mine to clamp to the bench. Simple but works just fine.

Joe,

How do I use that link? It takes me to a domain name site?

Wilson seems very popular. What is everyone using to still chamfer and debur?

Thanks

If your time is worth anything, you would buy the Giraud. Cry once.

I can tell it's gonna happen.....I'm going to get talked into a Giraud. I think that is the only reason I havent upgraded from the Lee stuff yet is because in the back of my mind I know if I spend $200 on something now I might as well had doubled it to get the best. Plus it will last me forever so $450 is not bad I guess.

Is directly from Giraurd the best way to obtain?

RCBS makes a 3 in one cutter head for both of those calibers. Trimmer and two 3 way cutters and you're at your $200.

Works great. Trims, inside and outside chamfers at the same time. Very fast if you connect a hand drill to the shaft.

In my book, the following is the order of reliability and quality, especially if you are serious about competing:

1. Giraud
2. Wilson
3. Redding 2400 - Which is what I have and use. I'm into pure accuracy and precision reloading, but do not compete. Anything below these gives the advantage to the other competitors. Just my thoughts.

WFT - Stands for the Worlds Finest Trimmer. They are caliber specific costing approx $80/caliber. Fits in a drill chuck and trims the case (once it is properly sized) indexing off the case neck. Trims to within .002". Couldn't be any
easier or efficient. My procedure for prepping brass is as follows. Decap on a separate press; tumble in SS media to clean; lube and size; trim; tumble in SS media again; lube all the brass; toss it into the Dillon 650 Casefeeder and Load.

For trimming you can't beat Possum Hollow's trimmers. They were the first to index off the shoulder datum (WFT is a copy), they are easily adjusted for depth and with a LE Wilson tool adapter you can chuck it into a drill.

No messing with something to hold the casehead. Trim as fast as you can slide a case into the trimmer. Finished length is consistent case-to-case. Cheap, too, and he'll make one for any Wildcat you desire for $35.

Does the Possum Hollow case trimmer chamfer and deburr the case mouth at the same time, while its cutting the neck to length?

If your into large batch trimming then get the Giraud if your doing 100-200 at a time like I am then the Wilson is all you will ever need, I can do 100 cases in just a few minutes, I have about a 1/2 dozen of them, for my competition guns I set then mark it what it's for and it never changes for all other rifles I have the shark fin micro set up from sinclair works great, I have bought the Wilsons for as little as $10 off this site and holders for as little as $5.00 each off here, I am always looking and always buying when I see a good deal.
