Trim length

How many if you guys have found your chamber is shorter than the max case length listed in manuals? I have a factory rifle that brass needs to be .004" shorter than the 2.500" max length in the manual trim to is listed as 2.490".

What did you use to measure your chamber length, to get this figure?

Never seen or heard of that in a factory barrel, to answer your question. Not saying it can't happen, but I would verify proper methodology in determining chamber length. Usually there's enough space at the end to park a VW.

If so, then I would be asking what else is short......brass chamber easily? I'm thinking I would do a chamber cast.

You did not indicate the cartridge, but doing the engineer thing, I grabbed my data tables and looked. Measurements you listed indicate your are talking about 30-06 or similar length cartridge. SAAMI spec for length is 2.494". Tolerance is +.015. Per my engineering mind, any chamber length between 2.494"-2.509" is within spec. Your 2.496" length would fall within SAAMI spec. Likely your chamber was cut with a reamer near the end of it's life span......
