Trigger time with the CZ457

Took the CZ457/Bartlein out the other day just to get some extra trigger time between doing some ladder testing with the 223 Wylde.

Started out as an American with the wood stock and 24" barrel. Didn't take long to go down the rabbit hole so they say. Got a Bartlein Barrel, Boyds Varmint stock with adjustable cheekpiece, Tactical bolt knob, 8 oz trigger, Area 419 30 MOA base, Vortex Venom 5-25x with EBR-7C MOA reticle in 34mm Warne rings. I only shoot SK ammo out of it because I'm cheap haha. It shoots pretty decent though. I've taken it out to 500 yards on a 20" plate with the SK Long Range stuff. I never knew shooting 22s could be so much fun. I also participate in a few local 22 PRS matches with it and do quite well, usually placing in the top 25%

I shot 3 different types of SK, Standard yellow box, Rifle Match red box, and Long Range. It shoots them all relatively the same out to 200 yards, but after that the long range definitely takes over. Shot two 5 shot groups with each at 50 yards, and got some more cronograph data as well. Then put 10 on the 2/3 plate at 300 yards with the long range.

You rifle looks great, as well as your shooting. Where did you get your barrel, and how much (if you don't mind sharing).

I use a Lilja on mine and I shoot higher cost ammo. My CZ makes my Vudoo work to stay ahead.
Thanks. I got my Bartlein off a group buy from rimfire central, and came from Keystone accuracy about 3 or 4 years ago. It was around $400 I want to say.

According to Bartlein, they don't make CZ455/457 barrels anymore, so I'm glad I got it when I did. Bartlein and Brux are the only barrels I have on my centerfires so it only made sense to get one for the CZ knowing how they shoot.

One of these days I'll have to try some top tier ammo for the CZ, but I'm kinda scared because I don't want it to shoot too much better or else I'll have to switch haha. I just can't see paying $20/25 for 50 rounds of 22 lol.

The SK shoots pretty decent, but you usually see a wild flier every 10 rounds or so...which is kind of annoying, but for $80-100/brick you can't complain to much.

My Vudoo has a Bartlein on it. Generally, I find Lapua Center X shoots best in all my rifles. $14'ish per brick in quantity.

I'd love to try a CZ 457 mtr but those are the hot ticket now and can't find one.
Shouldn't have waited, could have bought one last year.
Now I see them going for $1200 on GB

This is my 457 Pro Varmint with an MTR barrel. I removed the tuner so I could shoot it in an ABRA Outlaw lite class match yesterday. I was using SK PMS and came in second. The winner was shooting a Vudoo V22 sitting in a BR stock, using a one piece rest and Midas+ ammo. Conditions were cloudy, mid 50's and 10-15 MPH winds. My AGG score was 5.25 points less than his over four cards, 17 points total.

I was very pleased with my first match results.

I've enjoyed shooting my CZ457s very much over the past several years. Was initially very impressed with the features of the then new 457 action - the fully adjustable trigger, side bolt stop, and most of all, how smooth & absolutely reliable the feed/function was. I also liked the proportions of the American stock, plus some nice attractive grain of the Turkish walnut.

But mine didn't shoot worth a hoot to begin with, and didn't get any better, even after I'd put 500+ rounds of mostly SK Std+ through it. I tried all the different lots & grades of SK, Lapua, & Eley that I had on hand, most of it stuff that shot really well out of a couple of jelrod converted CMP 40X actions that I'd put Benchmark, Lilja, & Krieger barrels with EPS chambers on. I did inspect the American's factory bbl with a Hawkeye borescope, and other than a fugly muzzle crown - which I re-cut in the lathe with a precision 11* crown - I didn't see anything obvious that could explain the poor accuracy.

Eventually, I pulled it & put it aside, replacing it with a Shilen select match ratchet in their #5 profile. I parted off the 1.20" shank and turned the transition radius down to tenon dia & length, chambered it with the same EPS reamer I've used on all my Vudoo repeaters, cut the extractor slots in an indexing fixture on my mill, and then finally CeraKoted the new bbl with a mixture of graphite black & tungsten in an effort to match the original bbl's nitride finish. It's now one of my favorite 22RF rifles, one that measures up quite nicely to a couple of very accurate Anschutz 54 sporters and a Browning reproduction 52C sporter with an absolutely lousy factory bbl that I had to replace with a Krieger that they contoured to match the factory bbl for me.

Shows a lot of promise, especially for cheaper ammo. Stick a tuner on that sucker and rock on.

Those cz's are good rifles. I just bought a 452 NIB from an estate sale. It's not unfired anymore! Lol! It's a hunting/plinking rifle, so I seriously doubt I'll put a tuner on it but I might. I'm a sucker for nice wood and it's very good for a factory offering. These guns just feel right and shoot well. I haven't even shot it from a bench yet, just off of a decent prop and still shooting around a half inch at 50 and I know most of that is on me and the wind. Wind has been blowing every day, enough it's hard to even hold steady but still fun. Can't wait to find a few squirrels on my creek bank this spring.

Congrats! Nice rifle! I bet you're gonna love it.

I’m a big fan of the 452 Americans. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one that wasn’t a shooter. I’ve shot multiple 2500’s in ARA factory class with mine despite it not being the best profile for BR. I shot these two targets before I ever shot an official match. I didn’t have flags then and didn’t know about shooting sighters. I have four NIB 452’s in central KY.IMG_0848.jpegIMG_1093.jpeg

Sweet! I'll play with a few lots and see how it does but it's a plinker. Thanks!

Nice shooting. Thanks for sharing! I'd agree that all my 457's have a liking for the SK branded ammo over all else. It's at the point, that I don't feed them much else if any kind of accuracy is needed.. ( and when isn't it, right?) The CZ 457 is just a great rifle IMHO. I have own several and despite owning higher end rifles, my CZ's are always a favorite and regular range companion. Here are two from my heard. The Varmint MTR is mostly stock and set up for 50-100 bench rest type shooting. The VPC sports a Lila barrel and is my 300yd gong ringer. Both have home spun 9 oz triggers.
