Trigger Identification Help Please

First post here. Thanks for the look.

I visited my local shop today, going out of business, so things are really marked down. A used stainless Savage Model 12 followed me home. Its a 22-250, not really my thing, so its going to undergo a caliber change. Anyway, I called Savage and they said the rifle left the factory with an Accutrigger, but the trigger has been replaced. I'd say its about a 2 oz. trigger, too light for my heavy mitts. I'm wondering if this is a Rifle Basix trigger. The shop owner knew next to nothing about the rifle, so I'm wondering what the trigger aficionados have to say about it? Thanks.

What you have, is a Rifle Basix SAV II trigger. I have one, that I installed on a single shot 112 several years ago, right after they became available. I wrote a story about it and the Shehane drop in varmint stock (which I had bedded for my barreled action, and finished myself) , that was published in Precision Shooting magazine. I still have the rifle. As a little sidelight, I came up the the idea of video installation instructions for this trigger. I think that with this information you should be able to go to the manufacturer's web site and fine instructions for adjusting it. It will adjust down to 4 oz., and the trigger pivot pin seems to be in the position for the lightest range of adjustments.

Yes, looks exactly like my Rifle Basix Sav-2 in my mdl. 12. If it's too light for you, it should easily adjust heavier. Too good of a trigger to discard. Of the after-market triggers out there for the Savage, I find the Rifle Basix to be one of the best. And, if you weighed the trigger you may find it's heavier than your estimated 2 oz. A trigger that's clean without creep can feel lighter than it really is. The important consideration is: is it safe? Can you close the bolt normally, and lightly bang the butt on the floor without the firing pin dropping?

Thanks guys! You fellas made my day! So I'm guessing that $250 out the door for the complete Savage 12 wasn't a bad deal at all, especially with a decent trigger on it! I pushed that pivot pin back in, so no worries. The rifle will not fire on a light bump on the ground, but I can get an accidental discharge with a stout tap. Is that expected and normal if set to a light pull, or does it mean that its too light? Thanks again! ;D

Too light. The trigger should not "go off" no matter how hard the bolt is closed, or if the butt is bounced on the floor, with the barrel pointed up. I would suggest that you find the adjustment instructions on the internet. You might want too check the safety for correct function while you are at it.
