trail camera

Does any one have a favorite make and model.Or can you advise me on what make and model to stay away from.Like to stay under $300.00.
Thanks

My newest Cubbeback Attack has been doing very good and the battery life is a plus...
Even my older ones have been no problem other than battery life...

I like the old style Tasco with the flash-- they have lasted 2 years so far and were less than $50 new-- Picked up a Wildgame Inovations one this year it was junk-- If cash is no issue buy the cuddieback

I have two Cuddieback's also and am happy. Almost sprung for the instant send photo type this year, as someone stole the mem card out of one I hung in July, 7 hours from home.

Nice work Jay,I like the dominant doe breaking bad! And awsome backdrop with the hilly terrain....This is one of the better pics I've had. He looks like a 5x6. Would have liked to have seen him as a 4 year old but didn't happen.

I am also looking into a trail cam. I am really interested in the IR models. Since I live in a tight neighborhood, and don't want the flash models being seen! had a nice one show up just after season closed, go figure, that I didn't even know existed! had I known he was around I might have saved a tag, and hunted a little more than I did. now I just have to know what is prowling around, so a camera is necessary.

I've use Moultrie, Cuddeback, Predator, Bushnell. All work fine but all work better if they are set over a mineral site. The newer cameras do much better on trails but still take a moment to "wake up". IR isn't a big plus unless you want the camera undetected. The newer cameras have a wider sensor area than the older models.

I know you guys have heard this before... Buy once, Cry once.

Get a Cuddeback and you won't be disappointed. The cheap cameras work fine at feeders and bait piles. They have such slow triggers that they miss an animal walking by most of the time. My Cuddebacks get pics of coyotes, foxes, deer, even squirrels running by. The cheap cameras take nice pics of scenery when an animal moves through. Look at the published trigger times. I laugh at the trigger time after the "wake up time" on the bargain models. Megapixels mean nothing if the animal isn't in the picture.

Thanks everyone for the information.NOW I have a few more questions.
How long do batteries last? Do they go by how long they are in the camera or how many pictures are taken.
Next can you take the SD card out of the trail cam and put it in a camera to look at the pictures?
Thanks again
Dan

In warmer weather the batteries last for a good while. I think I had 190ish pics on an IR Cuddie from Mid July to mid Sept. before batteries were dead. Cold weather kills them much faster. But my cams are five or more years old now. Also camo them with a piece of deadfall or something to keep people from noticing them. Oh yeah, the older Cuddies have a security system in them so if they're stolen they're worthless to the booger-eater. I don't know about the current models. I would seriously look into the instant send versions!

My Moultrie battery life is fantastic. I downloaded the pics, the week between Christmas & New Years in 2008 and in late April there were 800+ pics. Batteries life was at 60%. Last spring I have 4600+ pics and the batteries still had 50% remaining. Mine uses a 4 GB removable SD card.

Check out this Moultrie for $84

The old 6 volt rechargable battery cameras wouldn't make a week, now all the new cameras use mainly d cells & battery life is incredable. Several of our cameras will run 1500 pictures a week and batterys still last over a month. Some of the new bushnells will run a year if you're not racking up thousands of pictures. I would agree with an earlier statement that the cuddebacks have probably the best trigger speed. My newest Moultries are pretty decent as well. Older ones were Yurtle the turtle.

Import the Reconyx 900 from US. Got 3 including an older 600 but the 900 is far better. Very good pictures both day and night. Good service. :)
