tougher 204 or 20 cal bullet?

Love the 204 Ruger as a walking around varmint and predator rifle. I am in a cougar rich environment and would love to take one of these predators down. Are there any new 20 cal bullets out there more suitable to the slightly larger predator? My dad used to shoot lions with a 222 out to 200 yards and said they're not as tough as people think and the 204 should work. Bullet recomendations please...

Can't go wrong with the 39gr Sierra BlitzKing. I've also found them to be the most accurate in both of the 204 barrels I've had on my Rem 700 so far. Current barrel will print them in a 1/2" group at 200 yards. Speed is 3950 fps from a 26" barrel.

Highly explosive on gophers and good enough for antelope. Just a great all 'round 20 cal bullet.

I'd stay away from the Blitz Kings for cougars, but that's just me. An excellent varmint bullet, possibly the easiest to tune for in 20 cal, but it's highly frangible.

Haven't used these extensively yet, but heavier jackets might prove more useful. Check out blackholebullets@gmail.com

He makes them up to 55 grs, but you probably don't have the twist for that. Give him a shout and see what he says.

You might want to test drive 3 bullets first for accuracy/then on wet phone books about 6 to 8 inches thick...At about 75 yds.. I'd use my fav the 39 Gr Sierra blitxking then the hornady 45 gr spitzer & try the berger 40 match grade hollow point..Those 3 bullets if you can find them will keep you busy for a while..Good luck & post some pics...Oh the wet phone books will have to be bound up with strapping tape Dry then soak before using..Mike in Ct

+1 for the Blackhole bullets I haven't shot anything but paper with them but so far they are proving to be very accurate, I'm shooting the 45gr Lexan tipped cup base bullet and the 55gr Lexan tipped rebated BT out of a 20br and a 20-250 both 9 twist barrels.
Blaine has made .204 bullets from 30gr to 60, I would give him a call they may be what your looking for.
