Well, Looks like the fellers have never seen square threads. I have a few rifles with square threads. I'm kinda like Cgmac on fitting the tenon. I do use the proper 55 deg thread instead of 60 deg.

I'm not going to attempt to disagree, but I am curious.

How do you get both surfaces to contact exactly the same amount?

Out to how many places, and how do you measure this?

You measure from the receiver face to the inner torque shoulder, then cut the threads .002 short of that measurement. When the barrel is tightened, it will compress the .002 & contact the inner torque ring. A little touchier than a 700 but when they are right you'll feel it.

The action and barrel I posted are Springfield threads check it out today as far as square or acme threads you be the judge on which threads you would rather try threading.

Ah heck , just cut 60 deg and grind the top of them threads off . Oh wait , dang it ,no that's wrong . That's what some have done that I've pulled apart . With very little effort I mite add . They didn't obviously use precision tools for measuring or turning . Probably a ruler and a pipe threader .

Can you tell I'm still not feeling 100% ?

That sounds like an idea I had once, to turn a four lead 32 thread for a barrel for easy indexing.
It didn't take very long to realize the flaw in it.
