Tool for slotted thread protector

I threaded a barrel for a future potential muzzle device and have a customer supplied thread protector for it. I needed to contour and polish the protector to the OD of the barrel. Before anyone asks, no, I did NOT thread the barrel in a 4-jaw, I used dual spiders for that; I just needed it to match the OD of the barrel which was about 16 thou out-of-round from the bore (most I've ever seen).

Anyway, the thread protector has a slot across the face that I assume if to tighten/torque the protector in place. What sort of tool is used for this? The customer doesn't have one and would like me to find one or make one. I don't know what sort of google terms to use to search, but I can't find anything like it in searches.

I'm no gunsmith, but wouldn't a long Allen wrench or other small thin object fit lengthwise in the groove and work?

^^ or just a square rod to fit it. Not like it has to be on super tight. Just like putting in a choke tube in a shotgun.. hell i only hand tighten all mind, no tool...

Just a piece of flat plate steel say 1" x2-3" X what ever the slot measures 1/8 , 3/16 cold rolled , hot , it doesn't matter , Home Depot , lowes has it all .
Keep it simple

If you want to make something fancy turn some bar stock down so it just fits in the id then drill a hole through the side of the bar stock for a pin that fits the slot. Or you could mill a slot in the end of the bar stock and fit a piece of flat stock width of slot. On the other end install a rod like a tap handle. handlehttp://forum.accurateshooter.com/members/forum-boss.1096528/
