Took my Swede M38 to the range.

Finally shot it with a scope mounted. An old Weaver 16x and PPU "match ammo". I think it'll make a good deer rifle. I'll be working up loads when I have enough empties.

Orange dot is 1 1/2 in. 15 shots. Forgot my rear bag, so this is from a Caldwell front rest and shoulder. 100 yards, with a little scope adjusting between shots.

Ya caught me right in the middle of posting! You're the proud father, so this is thanks to you!

Those old Swede's are a hoot. I loaded some 100 gr Herter's bullets for my 94 Swede just for s&g's and shot about a 10" group at 100 yards. The throat is long enough that the 160 Hornady rn are out of the case when checked for seating depth. I loaded three loads with the 160's and the best group at 100 was 1.028". Plenty good for deer killing here. I use 140 gr IL's most of the time but had the 160's so I'll use them this fall for short range work a drives. Barlow

I like "old guns" with some history. I like short, fast to the shoulder guns. The M38 fits the bill, and shoots a great cartridge. I noticed the surge about the NEW scout rifles and chuckled to myself. I was in the LGS, and inspected the Ruger offering. I passed, in lieu of the Swede, and saved a good bit of change in the process. It may not have a 10 round magazine, but I don't need one. I bought some 140s to try. I think this old lady will do just fine.
