Tompkins/Gallagher Vehicle Accident

An email that I received from Dave Feihtner and Al Coots on Sat night:

From Leslie Cook

Just thought I would let you know that Nancy and Mid were in a bad accident last night in Kansas. They are both in the hospital and doing well. Mid had a few scratches and tore some cartridge around his ribs. Nancy had to be life flighted out to a different hospital in Topeka. They're not sure if her leg and patella is broken or what's going on with it, right leg. She's also having problems with her left arm, could be her rotator cuff but they're still trying to figure that out as well.

The van and trailer are both totaled. They're not sure what happened, Mid may have blacked out but they went off the road and the van rolled a couple of times with the trailer attached. Bob Jones happened to be about 5 min. behind them for some odd reason so he was able to assist. He and Steve McGee were able to get the cats and guns and what ever else they could find. Nancy wanted pictures of the van and Steve's wife Shirley told her no she didn't. Nancy was trapped for over 20 min. and they had to use the jaws of life to get her out so I'm sure it wasn't a pretty site.

From Kay Donner

Mid and Nancy rolled the van and trailer, totaling both. It was a one vehicle accident. Mid fell on top of Nancy. Bob Jones was right behind them and was able to help them. He held Nancy's hand until help arrived. Mid went by ambulance to a local hospital but Nancy had to be cut out of the vehicle and was air-lifted to Topeka, Kansas. Mid has cartelige and rib damage. Nancy has shoulder and knee damage. Neither have life threatening injuries.

Steve McGee came with a trailer and he and Bob took out the rifles, etc. from the wreckage. They couldn't find the insurance cards so Bob stayed overnight with the units to protect them. The next morning he and Steve were able to get the rest of the personal belongings out of the units. Steve lives in Salina, Kansas.

Wishing them both a speedy recovery.

Our prayers for both Mid and Nancy. Both are great shooters and great "ambassadors" of the sport. We wish them a full recovery.

Hi Everybody, I just wanted to thank everyone for all of the love and support this past week following our accident. It has been a very difficult time but all of your best wishes, love and prayers have helped us to get through this difficult time.

Mid is doing well, but is very sore. His ribs - front and back are bothering him and his has a nasty cut on this left elbow with some lacerations. I have a broken right tibia, leg bone), right patella, knee) left shoulder, and a tear on my left rotator cuff, a broken nose and very sore ribs, face, ect. No matter what, we fell very blessed to have survived this. We made it as did our three cats that we absolutely love and adore.

I need to especially thank Bob Jones, Steve, Shirley, and Mike McGee for doing all of the work at the wreck and helping us now. Dorothy and Bob Gustin for Picking me up at the hospital and for taking us home from Kansas to Prescott - we are leaving now. And to all of you that I haven't felt like contacting yet to say thank you for the phone calls, the absolutly beautiful flowers and plant, and again for the love and prayers.

I have always said that the best part of shooting isn't the winning - it is the people and wonderful friends that we have made from all over the world. You are all a complete blessing to me and my family.

Thanks again,
Nancy and Mid Tompkins
