I met Tom Morley in Murdo, South Dakota on a prarie
dog safarri in '07. We both made our longest to date
prarie dog shots under the same tent in the same dog
town at 850 yds. I started out shooting at a dog and
doping the wind. Voldoc's bench was vacant and Tom
asked Doc if he could try his gun. Tom and I were
shooting at two dogs standing next to each other.
Tom and I were alternating shots. Winds
were high but we were walking in closer with each shot.
Then Tom nailed his and there was jubilation by everyone
under the tent. Tom had never attempted a shot this long
before. He had nailed it.
Now the pressure was on me. But as luck would have it
I scored on my next shot. I jumped up out of my seat.
High five's all around. A lasting friendship had been established.
Next, I told Voldoc to set down and try one. It only took 3 to 4
shots before Doc had one down. John Kruzan, Don McCutcheon,
and Pedro witnessed the event.
I came home and set up a 1,000 yd range and it was not long
before Tom decided to make the 8.5 hour drive down for the
baptism into the 1,000 yard club. He brought a 6 BR and a
6 mm Woodchucker which is essentially a 6 XC. He did very
well scoring repeatedly on Ole Chuckie and Chico the prarie dog.
Tom has made the pilgramage from Wisconsin to Tennessee
two times and I hope he can come again this year. We set on
the 1,000 yard line two days and only leave for lunch at the Stagecoach.
Tom holds the record at the birdog range for 3 shot small group.
Less than 1.5 in.
Smile on Tom's face -- PRICELESS --
Good guns, good friends, best of times!!!
The Ky boys are still talking about Tom's group
Tom's favorite spot--1,000 yards away
The bench view from 1 Kilo
Tom wants to go loooooooong next trip
