To load develop or not?

Got a new Tikka CTR. Just ordered a manners stock. 6-8 month wait time. If I load develop with factory stock then put it in new stock how much will that affect the load? I know zero will shift, no big deal but does that affect the load itself?

Most likely u may have to make some slight adjustments. Harmonics seem to be different when the different stocks are installed and torque values change. An example I recently encountered is a friend of mine swapped his barreled action over from a chassis to a B R stock and his groups opened up to about double the actual size as in the chassis. He is still working with it and adjusting a few things last I heard.

Half the fun of this sport is working up good loads. You can be shooting for the 6 to 8 month wait time. Like someone said, maybe some fine tuning down the road.

You might as well have some fun with it. I usually don’t get serious with a factory barrel until it has a hundred rounds thru it. That lets me get close to a good load. To answer your question: A new stock can change your results, just like changing anything else.

Unfortunately I don’t have much time while building another house. Sounds like consensus is it shouldn’t change much, I’ll give it a go when I get a little time.

I'll be changing my Kelby Panda / Kreiger from a Kelby KTS - TR stock to a GRS HYBRID , F-stock later this Summer . Let you all know how that works out . As some have said , should only be minor adjustments . I tend to agree with that .

Did you try the rifle with the factory stock? It might pleasantly surprise you and you may not need to replace the stock. I strongly suspect that it will shoot very well once you find a suitable load combination.

I have several Tikka's (not your model). All shoot extremely well out of the box with the factory stock. The only changes I made was to replace their standard pistol grip with their vertical pistol grip option which improved my trigger finger position for field use. But off the bench with front and rear rests, out of the box all these rifles shot extremely well with minimum load development.

Their T3X varmint model is one of the most accurate out of the box rifle I ever own. It only took minimum load development to achieve sub 1/2 moa groups.
