TN State F class Championships - Non-residents

The excerpt below is from the posting on the match details of the 2005 TN state F class Championships.

"This is a the second annual F Class State Championship hosted by the Tennessee Shooting Sports Association,TnSSA) and will be conducted as an NRA Registered State Championship. Please be advised that while out of state competitors are welcome to attend, this is a State Championship and the F Class Championship trophies will be awarded to the high scoring state residents in both classes. Out of state competitors will however qualify for other awards, cash and or award points). NRA MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. "

My question is this.,Someone please correct me if I am mistaken on something). As I understood it, at the 2004 F Class Nationals, shooters from countries other than the U.S. could compete, potentially win, and potentially,Deservedly so) medal. This is in spite of the fact that it was the United States F Class National Championships.

Why is it then, that at the TN state F Class Championships, if an out-of-stater did happen to shoot well enough that his or her score would fall into a winner category he or she is ineligible to win?

I understand that it is a "State Championship". Why at least though, if a non-resident shot well enough to deserve it, couldn't there at least be an award,Medal, Trophy, whatever) designating the "Tennessee State F Class Chamionships Match Winner" as well as another award for the TN State Champ? If a TN resident wins the match, he or she gets both. If a non-resident shot the highest score, he or she gets the match winner award but is not officially the TN State Champ.

Maybe I am incorrect, but my perspective is that by pre-determining that an out-of-stater cannot win anything other than the equivalent of a door prize could quite possibly serve to pose as somewhat of a potential deterrent from participating in the match and thus the discouragement of more people to participate in F class within a region. Growing the sport, maximizing new shooter participation from surrounding states, etc.

Anyway, everyone can see where I am going with this. My views are intended to be presented in a respectful manner to those who are sponsoring the match, but I believe that this is a viable concern.

Please post your views on this matter.

Well as in Golf they have State championships and they have OPEN .One is only for state the other is OPEN to all.
I live in Australia as you possible guessed from my name and our national shoots are mainly to pick our national teams so someone shooting from another country can win first prize but you have to be a resident to be national champion.
Otherwise you would have all us Aussies over there being state and National champions in your country and you would be realy pissed off hahaha.

Nothing "fishy"...this is not uncommon for NRA Highpower Rifle State Championship matches. Iowa and Nebraska are like this, however, Illinois has been 'open'. The overall match winner may be Joe Minnesota, and he/she will recieve all monetary awards won, but the State Champion will be the high resident. I really don't think this deters out of staters from competing. If the inability to be named 'State Champion' in an out of state event, prevents people from competing, those folks may want to revaluate why they are shooting to begin with....

I think you'll find that MOST states are like this. Some go a step further, and require that you become a member of the state assc. if you want to fire.

The TN State LR Award is a 4x5" wooden plaque. Nothing special. If you win one of the State championships that are run by the TnSSA,Of which the LR, F class, Open HP and the Service rifle are this year) the match winner and the TN High resident get THE SAME trophy.

Is it fair that a resident, 20 points behind the match winner get a trophy. That's up to you to decide. I say it is, as the match is to determind the STATE CHAMPION. Not who can drive in and win it. If that was the case, I guess Norm Houle, David Tubb and the Gallager/Thompkins could drive all around the country and collect every damn award there is to be given.

That would be wonderful for the future of the sport.

If you want to be called the winner of something, win a Regional or one of the long range days at Perry. That is an accomplishment. Get on the Palma team as a firing member. Win one of the international matches.,BTW, how many countries do you think allow a foriegner to hold their counties title?)

Needing to be called another states "champion" is an just an ego trip guys. Get over it, and enjoy the match for what it is. A time to get away and have some fun.

The match is this weekened, 8-27/28-05. For those of you who aren't pout off by not being able to attain a title, I hope to see you out. The range is prepped, the targets new, and we're ready.

The match program can be seen here:

http://forums.delphiforums.com/tnhighpower/messages/?msg=409.1

In an effort to keep this match closely resembling the Nationals, the 600 yard targets have been changed to SR3's, instead of MR1's.
