The excerpt below is from the posting on the match details of the 2005 TN state F class Championships.
"This is a the second annual F Class State Championship hosted by the Tennessee Shooting Sports Association,TnSSA) and will be conducted as an NRA Registered State Championship. Please be advised that while out of state competitors are welcome to attend, this is a State Championship and the F Class Championship trophies will be awarded to the high scoring state residents in both classes. Out of state competitors will however qualify for other awards, cash and or award points). NRA MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. "
My question is this.,Someone please correct me if I am mistaken on something). As I understood it, at the 2004 F Class Nationals, shooters from countries other than the U.S. could compete, potentially win, and potentially,Deservedly so) medal. This is in spite of the fact that it was the United States F Class National Championships.
Why is it then, that at the TN state F Class Championships, if an out-of-stater did happen to shoot well enough that his or her score would fall into a winner category he or she is ineligible to win?
I understand that it is a "State Championship". Why at least though, if a non-resident shot well enough to deserve it, couldn't there at least be an award,Medal, Trophy, whatever) designating the "Tennessee State F Class Chamionships Match Winner" as well as another award for the TN State Champ? If a TN resident wins the match, he or she gets both. If a non-resident shot the highest score, he or she gets the match winner award but is not officially the TN State Champ.
Maybe I am incorrect, but my perspective is that by pre-determining that an out-of-stater cannot win anything other than the equivalent of a door prize could quite possibly serve to pose as somewhat of a potential deterrent from participating in the match and thus the discouragement of more people to participate in F class within a region. Growing the sport, maximizing new shooter participation from surrounding states, etc.
Anyway, everyone can see where I am going with this. My views are intended to be presented in a respectful manner to those who are sponsoring the match, but I believe that this is a viable concern.
Please post your views on this matter.
