TL Technologies Classic Hunter Action

Boyd L.

Witty comment under development
Has anyone who purchased one of the Classic Hunter Action recently shared any feedback or impressions about their rifles?
Just curious.

Thanks. Yes, I am aware of this thread. I was hoping to read about more user experiences. I guess it’s still early.

Yeah sorry. My Smith is really backed up. He still has two of my rifles. He probably won’t get this rifle done for another 6 months. There’s a smith in my thread who posted his rifle. I would ask him how’s its shooting.

Once my rifle is built I’ll report back. The only saving grace is that the ed Brown 704 action in those rifles is the same. You can look at reviews on those for a baseline.

Thanks for the heads up.
I don’t have the same “skin in the game” as you. I’m just curious. You have an actual investment of cash and time.

Let us know what you can, when you can.

Thanks again.

I don't think you can go wrong with them for the price. It's a lot of action for what you pay. Seems to have just about everything that the Rem 700 is lacking, but you get it all at a much more affordable price than if you were to make all those mods to a 700.

Judging by the other thread, I dont thnk i would pay for any gunsmithing installation options prior to delivery. I would just buy the bare action and make sure everything else is done right myself. Don't want to end up with whacked out scope base screws or a Timney trigger with a 700 bolt release when it isn't needed. Or a Timney trigger at all for that matter...disgusting! Lol.
I also like to time my own trigger and hone the cocking piece ramp to get the bolt cycling smoothly.

@Ledd Slinger, sweet we clearly have a jewel fan here ;):D

Yeah, but I agree with you, though, ledd slinger. There were little details that were off that were kind of annoying. As in the other thread they are a step up from a Rem Action.

I still need to get a barrel, stock and 0 moa pic rail. I have a one year old running around and make beer for living. That = less play funds. I need to find a gunsmith that will barter for beer, then I'll be good.

How much Wiggle is in the bolt? I know its a "hunting" action, still curios. Any chance someone can post a video of it cycling?

I find the bolt to be exceptionally well fitted with very tight tolerances. The problem that I have with it is the "quick removal" feature of the bolt shroud and firing pin assembly. Seeing that the shroud can twist both left and right, it frequently becomes misaligned which causes the cocking piece to hit the rear tang and bind. This is a critical surface too, so mashing it could cause issues with the firing system. I'll be making a change to how the detent seats to ensure that this doesn't happen anymore.

This misalignment may only happen when the action is in my hand and out of the stock, I dunno. YMMV.

Does yours do the same thing?

I don’t know. I’m in a unique situation where my rifles are not with me at the moment. They are at my house with my dad in GA, and I’m currently at fort bragg. I got 30 days left in the army before I’m reunited with my wonderful rifles for good. I’m heading down on the 23rd to move some stuff home. I’ll take a video like you did and post my results.

Great info and questions from everyone. Thanks everybody for participating in this thread.
