Tipton Best Gun Vise

Anyone use this ? Need a mobile gun stand/vise for cleaning and maintenance.

I don’t think I’ve used that exact model, but I’ve used something very similar from Tipton before and have done the majority of my cleaning on a cheap MTM gun vise. They work great in my opinion and what I use to clean exclusively except at benchrest matches where I use a PMA style cleaning cradle.

I use one in my shop weekly. They are great for any work needed but they will not open enough to grip a 3 inch fore end. I wish the swivel handle had more force too as it will slip with a heavy gun in it at times.

I use that same MTM cradle and it works fine.

The best I have found tor holding a rifle for scope mounting (works for cleaning also) is a lead sled with a few modifications.

Thanks for the suggestions. I also shoot AR15/AR10 types along with bolt guns.

Had a Cabela's branded sled that was crap for shooting and was a bit massive and tough to store for cleaning.

Midway had it with a folding stand on sale for $175 for a few weeks but I waited too long. I'll keep hoping for a repeat, for a while at least. Probably will go with the MTM in the end. For the money it's probably the sensible choice.

I use two Harbor Freight benches with the vise on the side. I then relocated the vise on one bench to the end (due to room layout). I then attach 3/8 neoprene material along the wooden vise jaws. Easily tighten on a stock or barrel and no movement. I do everything from reloading, scopes, cleaning, sanding, refinishing, bedding on these benches. I went from this to this.

Smallest conventional vice that will fit your rifle + piece of full grain cow leather can order on amazon for 10 bucks. heavier but less bulky. For AR platforms just clamp the mount that goes into magwell.

Thats what I use too I really like it, but its only just wide enough for the front of my rifle.

I have both. The "Best" is flimsy - not Caldwell-level junk, but soft and flexxy. The clamping towers flex when you clamp anything. Just seems flimsy to me. I bought the Ultra and it is 3x the tool at 2x the cost. I think I paid $99 for the Best and$170 for the Ultra. Get the Ultra. Everything about it is superior.

I have the Tipton Ultra and used it just a little while ago to hold a rifle while I mounted a new scope. It's far superior to any gun maintenance station that I've ever had before.

Tipton are classic chicom manu 100% plastic junk. Fine for a savage or rem 722 as cleaning base, but not for a fine rifle.

I use the Tipton Best Vise. It works well enough. The Ultra is too big for my space. For AR's I prefer the Sinclair International cradle that seems to no longer be available from Brownell's. Caleb, from Brownell's, still shows the Sinclair cradle in many of his videos. I'd use it more if the parts were available for different stock foreends, as was originally.
