Tip length of Hornady 6mm .243 80 gr ELD-VT

I called Hornady to find out the twist rate to use. I was going to use them in a 12 twist but they told me because of the length of the bullet I would be better off using a 8 twist.

Thank you @243winxb

I had looked there. Have that site/page bookmarked as there is a lot of useful information and calculators there. Unfortunately no tip length mentioned.

Do have any of the V-Max bullets around? Measure one of those tips as I doubt they have very few bullet specific tips.

I can get the tip length for you tomorrow. The 80 ELD VT’s are extremely long for a 80 grain 6mm. They do say recommended 8 twist on the box. I’ll post a picture of Berger 108BT, 80ELD VT, 75 Vmax, and 65 Vmax IMG_0389-compressed.jpeg

They are long enough that I really don’t think a 12 twist would stabilize them. 10 twist maybe but I wouldn’t bet on it. 9 twist most likely will. 8 definitely will. I’m getting ready to play with the 80’s to see what kind of speed I can get out of them for a shorter barreled coyote rifle.

I dont like tipped bullets, mostly a problem in 68gr .224 bullets. Cant play with seating depth in a magazine rifle.
