Tin coated chamber reamers

How much of a benifit is having your reamer coated? Is a change in spindle speed needed? How much extra life (if any) is gained?

HSS steel is ca 65HRC
Tin coating is 90-95HRC with improed friction coefficient.

I do not think spindle speed comes into question when cutting a chamber?...

You will gain life but it's definite not necessary as some guys have cut hundreds of chambers with the same reamer. The TICN is a better coating if you're having one done. Never corrode & stays sharp. We use TICN on all of our cutters that I have made for our shop use & it extends the life considerably with reduced friction as previously stated. In our case we can run higher RPM's but you would probably need continous coolant for chambers.

I ordered a reamer 2 weeks ago from Dave at PTG and I asked about having it coated. He said if I wasn't going to do 50 barrels it is not needed.
