Timney issue?

Rifle is a Howa 1500 to get thing started. I bought a Timney for the Weatherby Vanguard/Howa. Its a model 611. It should be an easy swap, one screw holds the trigger in the action. First problem, the screw is to long and won't allow the bolt to open or close, so I trimmed it off to a usable length. I put the trigger in the action then checked the pull weight and adjusted it down to the minimum Timney recommends which is 1 1/2 pounds. Works great....until I put it in the stock. Now it won't cock. It feels like its not getting enough sear engagement but I never touched the sear adjustment. Re-adjust the pull weight and it works fine until I put it in the stock. I called Timney and they don't know what's wrong either. The trigger doesn't look to be touching the stock and works good out of the stock. I get the same issues without the mag box and trigger guard. No trigger guard, no screws, just setting in the stock. The part that drives me crazy is it is almost identical to the factory trigger and it works fine and I can't see anything that would trip the trigger or even touching the trigger.

Forgot to add, trigger pull weight is double in the stock. Over four pounds in the stock and 2 out of the stock. I just tried again and powdered the inside of my stock then put the action back in it. Same issues and no rub marks on the inside of the stock anywhere that I could see. Friday the 13th I guess. Maybe I can get a refund.

The puzzling part is the safety is the only part on the outside of the trigger. The bolt release is attached to the action. There is no stock material under the trigger and the sear adjustment screw is on the rear of the trigger and has plenty of clearance. It malfunctions just setting in the stock with no floor plate or action screws. They're laying on the bench. Sure has me scratching my head but I haven't given up.........yet.

I'm usually not one to give up on a project but I just didn't have the patience to keep messing with this trigger so I returned it. My factory trigger is already under two pounds and all I would gain is maybe a half pound trigger pull less. They weren't real happy about a refund and all but called me an idiot. If it works out of the stock and doesn't work in the stock you should know the problem. Well Duh, ya I know there is a problem but it isn't easy to see. With nothing but gravity holding the barreled action in the stock the trigger doubled its pull rate and would not reset the sear. The safety worked freely as well as the bolt release. Nothing but air under the trigger and at least an eighth of an inch clearance behind it. Daylight on both sides. Where do I start grinding? Howa triggers aren't complicated at all and I did compare them side by side and nothing jumped out at me. I just couldn't bring myself to start grinding on a stock and hope I got it right. Maybe I am an idiot and more than likely it was an easy fix but I just ran out of patience.

The trigger guard is touching the one rivot on the trigger when you tighten it down. You need need to relief a notch so it doesn't touch. Had to do 2 of mine plus shortening the screw as you stated. Work great now.

Trigger guard was not attached, it and the action screws and mag box were laying on the table next to it.

I know the stock was the issue but without being able to see what the problem was I just couldn't bring myself to start grinding on a stock with no direction where the problem actually was. That and the factory trigger worked fine. Like they say, Sometimes the squeeze isn't worth the juice.
