George,
Pm me with your address, I will drop the article in the mail. I am not very computer literate and have trouble moving things from one file to another.

I just got mine back from Kevin Rayhill, Stockade Gun Works, Chadron Nebraska. I am verry happy with the results. Smooth and easy to open, cock). Fast turn around time and he does not charge an arm and a leg. I just did not want to wait for the SSS wait of 3 months or whatever it is, am on the list to have them do one also). The Sharp Shooter Supply trigger is great.

BJordan:

Every gunsmith does their truing and timing a Little different. I do the following:

1. Radius and polish the leading edged of the bolt head and lap the lugs into the receiver bearing lugs.

2. Radius and polish the firing pin.

3. De-burr and polish the inside and outside of the of the cocking piece sleeve.

4. De-bur and polish the cocking piece.

5. Deburr the Cocking piece lock washer.

6. Thread the cocking piece .250 X 28tpi for set screw.

7. Turn a shoulder on the bolt assembly screw to align and support the cocking piece sleeve.

8. Re-cut the cocking piece pin hole in the bolt body.

9. Adjust the cocking piece pin travel.

10. De-bur and polish sear.

11. Replace sear spring with 75% strength torsion spring.

12. Take out some of the shoulders on the detent ball groove on bolt body.

13. Polish inside and outside of bolt body.

14. Insert .250 X 28tpi setscrew in cocking piece to support cocking piece pin.

15. Polish the contact points between the bolthandle and the rear baffle.

16. Thoroughly clean and lubricate all internal bolt parts with high temperature moly grease.

A factory Savage Bolt action comes with a 22-24 pound bolt lift on cocking and a 12-14 pound bolt lift on post cocking bolt lift. If one does the following correctly the bolt lift will be reduced about 40-45% 0n cocking bolt lift and about 60% on post cocking bolt lift. If this is not done correctly one might ruin or make the Savage unsafe. This is not a undertaking for the inexperienced.

Because Savage action have their famous floating bolt head they will compensate for some misalignment between the bolt and barrel. To truly true the Savage action it must be set up in a jig and the receiver threads must be checked for both coaxial and concentricity with the bolt race. This requires a steady accurate lathe set up and dual,.0001 indicator)readings.

I hope this has answered your question. Yes, I Time and True a number of of Savage bolt actions.
