Tikka TX1 in 17 hmr New and results

Long story but i ended up buying two of these rifles new and wanted to post accuracy results because i didn’t see a post on them in 17hmr. Didn’t want a 22 in it but it looks like plenty of satisfied folks out there with the 22’s also. Received both rifles within a couple of days apart and had mounts and scopes ready for them. Weight sorted Hornady 17gr ammo and very little breeze on solid rest. I thoroughly cleaned barrels and fired a couple rounds through them before i started. Both rifles shot the same keeping all shots within an inch !! I own several cz 452 455 457’s and an anschutz 1715 all in 17 hmr. They all shoot pretty good but the tikkas group better than all - and comparable to the anschutz at half the price. Not sure what is special about the barrels on the tikkas but they just shoot. I hope they get even better once i put a few rounds down the barrels. The Tupperware stocks i wondered about but they’re not like the savage Tupperware - i have a couple of savages that shoot pretty good after a Boyd’s stock but not like this. The tikka stock is solid or rigid no flex and they look decent and a short lop which i like. I may just for looks stick one in a Boyd’s as long as it doesn’t hurt accuracy. Just wanted to post for any 17 rimfire fans. Now if they would only chamber one in 17wsm. Now that would be on the must have list. I didn’t post pics of targets but it did happen . I will shoot some more and post now that they’re sited in.

Got a T1 in .17 HMR in January before the big rush. Was able to buy only 2 boxes of ammo. Recently shot a few rounds and was pleased with accuracy. Trigger was way too heavy with creep. I have since lightened the pull but the creep is still there. Put a Burris 6x Hunter Class scope on it and compliments the rifles handiness.

Thats the first time I ever heard of a tikka trigger with creep.

Yep they’re both hard pulls but absolutely no creep. I’m going to try to adjust - maybe won’t have to change spring - anyone have a source for springs ? I called possum hollow for bore guide - #375 and it’s on its way for 20 bucks shipped !! Can’t beat that with a stick

We just cut two and a half coils off my buddies trigger spring for now to try it and it seems like it cut the trigger pull down almost half of what it was. Going to see if we can find a lighter diameter wire spring for later.

Yep. Just tried the trigger a few times- a PITA because you have to fire on a spent case, and there is creep which my Rem.700's, Rem. 504, nor the CZ 452 have. I'll wait until it gets some rounds through before I worry about it.
Check rimfirecentral for a spring source.

I’ve backed screw out on trigger pull and they are light - guessing maybe between 1 and 2 lbs but no creep. Just fine for what i want out of these rifles and i believe they’re still safe. I bumped hard and closed bolt hard and no problems. I may have to try a Boyd’s At One thumbhole stock for one of them.

Similar results here, strictly std off-the-shelf Tikka T1X 17 hmr, no mods (to trigger),
other than have swapped stock to KRG Bravo chassis and playing with riflescopes
Shoots same/same, but I do like the feel of the Bravo

How is the athlon 8-40? I have the argos btr 8-34×56 i use for f open and the neo 6-18×44 on my ruger american 17hmr, both are great scopes well above their price tag. I wish they would make a 15-55 i could use for ARA. I plan on a 338lm and it will get their ares 3.5-30×56.
Wont mess with any other low cost glass besides athlon, i have a konos pro m30 10-40 that is crap and was almost 400.

Try McMaster-Carr for springs. Look at compression springs. They cost less than 50 cents each in a pack of 6. The aftermarket springs costing $15-20 probably came from McMaster-Carr.
