Tikka T3x Varmint scope mounting

i have a T3x Varmint on order, should be in this week. I want to mount a 30mm scope on it. The Tikka has a 15mm or 17mm dovetail, I don’t know which.
Should I go with the dovetail rings ? When I mount a scope it’s more or less permanent so I don’t need the advantage that a picatinny offers. I like the room that a two piece mount leaves in the area
below scope for single loading. Anyone have any preferences ? I don’t need an inclined base since any shooting will be 400 yds or less. I like clean and simple so non-picatinny has appeal. The only place I’ve seen dovetail is the Tikka site but from what I saw I’m not real impressed.

I don't have dovetail on any of my rifles, and i don't own a Tikka yet.
So i can't give an honest opinion on any.
Just trying to help & steer ya to people that would know their own products.

Personally, I use rails on everything. Makes it much easier to move scopes around to adjust for eye relief and other factors. The one gun I didn't have a rail on was my 10/22 and I decided to move my scope from the 10/22 (was using a DNZ one-piece mount) to my AR-15, and now I have to go get new rings for the scope moving to my AR-15 and for the 10/22 scope. The rail is just a more versatile/modular system IMHO.

But I agree with others that in general, it's not a major issue to use the dovetails - it just makes things easier with multiple guns and scopes to have a common mounting system IMHO.

Something to consider is the objective diameter. I couldn't get enough height from just rings. My 56 mm objective worked out to need a one piece Weaver base plus rings. My scope is a 30 mm tube too.

I have a Tikka T3x in 223 and I like the two piece mount for the reason of more room to single feed and I only have a 100, 200 and 300 yd ranges to shoot at.

I really like the Burris Extreme bases. All the versatility of a rail while keeping things neat and clean. Combine that with a set of Burris Signature rings and you will hive a nice clean solid set up with the option of adding MOA inserts for longer range shooting in the future if you decide to do so.

I prefer to use the factory dovetail, I have used factory rings on all 5 of my T1's and had absolutely no issue with them. The factory screws are a bit soft so I did replace the factory screws with harder ones from Ace Hardware (they are a common metric size), total cost of about $2.00.
Adding a set of after market bases or a rail and 4 more screws to an already near perfect mounting system does not make sense in your case. If you do not like the factory rings then find a dovetail set you like better and go that way.

Should you decide to use a one-inch scope I have an extra set of factory rings that I can let you have at a very reasonable cost.
