I stopped at a nearby Scheels after dropping my wife off at the airport and as I wandered through the firearms section I noticed most of the new Tikkas had threaded barrels. I was intrigued as the rifles have a sporter contour as usual and then bell slightly at the muzzle for the threads. I walked up to the rack and shazam, here was a 1-8" twist, 22.4" long stainless 7PRC just asking to go home with me. They aren't even listed on the Tikka website yet. Salesman seemed fairly knowledgeable when I asked and he said they just came in as the 7PRC was a little slow getting CIP approval.
I have two 284 shehane hunting rifles already, but this will probably go into a compact stock for my wife. I suspect it will shoot as well as other Tikkas do so for an extra $250, it was an easy choice over the Ruger American in the same cartridge. I'll start some load development with Hornady brass and the amazing 175 grain Berger Elite Hunter bullets. It will wear a 7" Thunderbeast suppressor too. Anyone have some load suggestions using Retumbo or H4831SC?
