Tikka T1X Question

I want to get a 22 rimfire for informal general range practice shooting at 50 yards and perhaps some short range under 50 yards ground hog pest control with maybe a squirrel hunt tossed in. Will be using CCI Standard Velocity ammo since I have over 5000 rounds of it. Would be satisfied with a consistent 1 1/2" groups at 50 yards. Reliability is high on my priority list.

I have been considering the Tikka T1X since I have several Tikka centerfire rifles, all excellent in every respect. However, reading the posts on rimfire central there seems to be problems with reliability of the ejectors and to a lesser extent the extractors with the T1X's. The last thing I want is a rifle with reliability issues.

Would like to hear from Tikka T1X owner on this issue. Thanks.

I have a T1x older style ejector and use it for benchrest shooting. Have never had ejector problems with mine. Over 1,000 rounds thru it. With SK match it will shoot .5" groups at 50yds and less. Also have a T1x in 17HMR. Newer style ejector. Didn't even know there was a newer style when I bought it. It will shoot the same with 17 grain Hornady V-Max. No ejector problems there either. I am using single shot adapters in both rifles not because I need to but prefer SSA's for benchrest. They are both keepers, along with my T3x 243. They won't be going anywhere. I'm more than happy I purchased mine. After seeing how my Tikka's shoot a couple of other guys in our benchrest league are now shooting T1x.
Hope that helps.

I wanted to buy a T1x back when they were first announced, but never could find one in stock at any of the online wholesale jobbers back then. Wound up with three CZ457s instead - American, Varmint MTR, Varmint Precision Trainer. All have been 100% reliable in feeding, extraction, and ejection, but the American's accuracy sucked, and I had some accuracy issues with the VPT's 24" bbl, though it was much better than the American's. The MTR shot pretty decently right out of the box. I liked the new 457 actions & triggers so much that I bought a couple of Shilen select match ratchet rifled blanks and used them to replace the two disappointing factory barrels. The resulting rifles shot so much better than they had before that I set the MTR aside and wasn't shooting it at all, and eventually sold it.

Understand, my accuracy expectations of the factory CZ bbls were probably unreasonable because I'd built myself a complete custom 22RF on a Stiller 2500XR, plus a couple of converted CMP 40X repeaters with Benchmark & Lilja barrels that I'd chambered with an EPS reamer, and was rather spoiled by the accuracy of these rifles, relative to the factory stock CZ457 hammer forged bbls.

So at this point, having a 457 American with a nice-looking stock and a VPT with the factory Manners PRS1T stock - both with Shilen barrels that shoot very well - I've lost interest in buying a T1x.

I bought my t1x second hand recently and it is a shooter! It will more than eexceed the limit you are speaking of. As a matter of fact, I just came in from ammo testing in my yard at 50yds and here are some groups I am getting. Norma match, lapua polar biathlon, and lapua biathlon extreme. there are two groups of 5

I have one with the old style ejector that I have ran well over 5000 rounds of cci standard velocity thru, I can't remember a single issue, very reliable and it will shoot some small groups with that ammo, but not consistently, should meet or beat the accuracy requirement the OP stated easily.

Mine is a 2019 model with almost 4500 rds through it to date. Has the old Sako style wire ejector. I had some minor issues with ejection at one point, it would drop the fired case in the action rather than throwing it clear.

I noticed that the bolt face had a bit of carbon or dirt on it, I cleaned that off with a toothbrush and it's been flawless ever since. I don't understand how that affected ejection, but it was all I did to correct the problem. Very accurate rifle, great trigger.

I put mine in a T3 Hunter walnut stock as soon as I got it, the original stock is gathering dust in a closet. Also picked up a 5 rd flush fit magazine from the Canadian distributor. I do like the look and feel of the 5 rd mag.

I just started using .22s for more than just plinking a couple of years ago. I have once CZ 452, one Anschutz 1416, and a Tikka T1x with new ejector. I read a lot about people having trouble getting reliable ejection. All three guns rely on the speed you pull the bolt back to toss the empty clear. It's just the nature of the beast. Work the bolt like you mean it - with some velocity, and you probably won't have any problems.

If I pull the bolt back slowly like I'm shooting a centerfire and I want to catch the brass in my hand, the empty is likely going to fall back in the chamber.
