Tikka T1X Question

I want to get a 22 rimfire for informal general range practice shooting at 50 yards and perhaps some short range under 50 yards ground hog pest control with maybe a squirrel hunt tossed in. Will be using CCI Standard Velocity ammo since I have over 5000 rounds of it. Would be satisfied with a consistent 1 1/2" groups at 50 yards. Reliability is high on my priority list.

I have been considering the Tikka T1X since I have several Tikka centerfire rifles, all excellent in every respect. However, reading the posts on rimfire central there seems to be problems with reliability of the ejectors and to a lesser extent the extractors with the T1X's. The last thing I want is a rifle with reliability issues.

Would like to hear from Tikka T1X owner on this issue. Thanks.

I have two T1X in 22 LR and both easily shoot 1/2" five shot groups at 50 yards with CCI S/V ammo.

As far as ejection problems - both mine are the wire ejector and both flip the cases clear and about 12 - 18 inches from the rifle. The newer T1X has a fixed ejector and ejection force will be dependent on how rapid the bolt is moved rearward.

I would not let internet tales of woe keep me from buying one - like most things on the internet problems are often overblown.

p.s. - you will likely get more responses if you move the thread to the rimfire sub-forum

Thanks for the infor.

Yea, that was a brain fart posting on the wrong sub forum. Now I just have to figure out how to move it without having to retype it.

I have a T1x but in 17hmr and have not had issues. My buddy has both and has. It reported any either that I know of.
Granted when they were announced I pre ordered my 17hmr so not sure what has changed them when they were releases

I have one in 22lr and have not had problems that I would consider out of the ordinary for a 22. Gary Eliseo had some videos on YouTube about tuning the ejector.
The factory barrel was a good shooter but I put a new barrel on. Not sure I picked up a lot but can mount sights on it.
I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I have one, and several friends have them. Zero issues, and they shoot as good or better out of the box than a few CZ457's and a couple Anschutz 1710's I have.

Gene Davis told me that he had bought a T1X at one point and it turned out to be the most accurate factory .22 that he has ever seen. Even though I’m a big CZ fan, I would strongly consider a T1X if I were in the market.

I've had a Tikka T1X .22 for about 2 years now. It has the wire ejector. Every once in a while it will leave the last spent case laying on top of the magazine/raceway area. Always the last case. It shoot very accurately.
Recently I bought a Bergara BMR .22, I believe my Bergara shoots equally as well as the Tikka. I've tested multiple ammo in bought, tho I'm not shooting high dollar stuff, most expensive is SK Standard Plus, CCI Standard Velocity, Norma red box Tac22.

On the suggestion to by the Norma Tac22 red box from boltfluter, I have been completely pleased with it.

Dont limit yourself to 1 ammo choice. 22s are fickle little things and require tuning with different ammo.
I started with a T1X and it shot good. At that point in my life I was convinced the cheaper ammo would work and that was a major mess up on my part. Mine shot very well and would shoot 1.5ish groups at 100 with some of the cheaper ammo. Had I tried even cheap SK I think I could have been really impressed. I shot eley force as my best ammo and it did average 1.5" at 100 regularly... but I bet the gun was capable of more.

I do not think the accuracy will be an issue but please try some SK std plus, SK auto match or eley club at a minimum. If you dont intend to shoot a lot of ammo spend a little more. CCI std plus shoots decent usually so you might be happy. I think the gun is probably capable of .5 at 50 easy enough with the right ammo.

I rebarreled a T1X for my buddy and it shoots great. It does have eject issues at times but not horrible. The little spring wire ejector was not thought out well. I think they changed that and I believe the new system is transferrable to the old guns??? I dont know for sure but he tells me they changed the ejector.

If you are not dead set on tikka the CZ 457s are typically good shooters and reliable.

The ejector is now a fixed ejector that is a part of the magazine, the rib on the bottom of the bolt is slightly different and they do not interchange unless some machine work is done on the bolt. There are some threads around showing the difference between the them.

I have never had an issue with the spring ejector, both of my T1x have them and both toss the brass energetically. I suspect that keeping any crud buildup from the spring area may help.

Have a T1X in .17 HMR for 3 years now. No problems with ejection. Just don't get to shoot it much. Good thing is ammo is becoming available again.

I just watched Gary's video. I believe I'll tinker with mine someday if it annoys me enough.

I have my T1x now for a couple of years and have had no issues.
It's a very accurate rifle and groups with CCI SD average 0.4 inches at 50 yards.
It was calm today so I shot some steel at 150 yards from my shooting sticks and then at 186 yards from a bench.
I was quite pleased how the CCI performed.

100% it will satisfy your requirements. I sold mine to build a rimx. They shoot the same. The t1x I put in a bc stock and it was a sweetheart.

We have about half a dozen T1x's (all Gen 1 with wire ejectors) at our club and most of them have feeding and/or ejection issues. I sold mine after adjusting the ejector and resolving the problems but I did show the purchaser photos of the magwell with the self tapping screw placed directly into plastic to hold the bent wire ejector. I have a safe full of T3 and T3x rifles that I love but I won't be buying another T1x. The fact that the ejector on the Gen 2 is plastic doesn't inspire confidence for longevity.

A plastic ejector gives me the hives.

PS: After one season of heavy varmint hunting, I wore out a Browning polymer magazine such that it would not reliably feed. Browning replaced it free of charge, but it was a hassle and these days I try to avoid hassles. I too have a bunch of T3's that are outstanding thus that's what led me to believe that the T1X might be the same level, now I'm not sure. Functionality is on top of my list along with accuracy.

Palmetto State Armory has the Bergara BMR on sale for $449.00. Heck of a deal for a good shooting .22lr. Feeds and ejects flawlessly.
