TIKKA T1X BOLT BREAK IN

The action on the T1X is really stiff even after hundreds of cycles. What's the best way to smooth it up? I know it will never be as smooth as a centerfire, but I'd like it to slick up a bit.

The issue is the bolt design, the short operating distance of the bolt creates the necessity for a steep cocking cam angle which makes opening the action feel stiffer than what “normal” rimfire bolt actions feel like. Most other rimfire bolt actions are designed with a more gradual angle to the cocking cams which makes them feel like they are not as stiff.

Put a dab of high-pressure grease on the cocking cam, that will help the cocking cam operate smoother, a little light coat of lube on the outside of the bolt will also help but go lightly there because it will attract dust/dirt. Also a light dab of grease on the engaging surface of the locking lug will help a bit.
