Tikka t-3 magazine question

saunaking

Silver $$ Contributor
Is there an after-market magazine or single shot platform that is easy to install in a T-3 rifle that will work for long bullets in a .223? The 77 grain SMK shoots really well in this rifle, but it is too long for the magazine. Anyone that has tried to single feed these into the chamber will understand the difficulty of this if you have bigger hands/fingers. It is mainly used for p-dogs, but could be used in an ftr match as well. Any tips from someone that has found a good solution would be appreciated.

I would like to know as well. I modified one magazine myself and it turned out that the feed lips are worn enough that it allows the shells to tip up enough that the bolt won't pick up the next round without me helping it. I think it's just the lips because when I compare it to new mags, it is plainly visible but I would like to KNOW that this is the problem before I cut another one up.

CDI makes a bottom metal conversion for AICS magazines for the T3. The AICS 223 mags will fit rounds with max OAL of 2.5" (so I read). Some fitting of the mags may be necessary? You could ask Jeff Allen @ CDI for details. He can do the inletting job professionally on the stock as well.
