Tikka Master Sporter- black "grip" texture

Hi all. I picked up an old Tikka MS that the stock was refinished by a previous owner. The "black grippy surface" was removed from the fore- end and is mottled and stained at the grip. Does anyone know if it is a " paint on" or " sticky-backed " paper finish, and where I could get some. I'd like to bring her back to "original". Thanks, in advance, Josh.

I had success redoing a similar surface on my daughters Anschutz using a blunt nose punch ground to the contour of the stippling and very light hammer blows to renew the surface texture and re-coated with a black alcohol base wood stain.

Thanks for that. I may do that, if I can't find the original finish. It almost looks like the stuff used for "paint on" truck bed liners. Might give that a try, but I'd like to know what original is. Maybe I should call Europtic.

I can't identify what the material is. Sure has the look of flat black paint over the stipled surface. Here is a picture of what the original appearance is.

Half the answer found. I bought an "as new" tikka master sporter and it's plain to see the stock is stippled and then painted with a "thick black paint". What kind of paint is soon to be found. Thanks reedg, but I tried to blow up the pic and came up guessing. Then I got another one and saw what you suggested. The paint seems to be a "thicker" type, with a rubbery base, like the truck bed liner stuffThanks for the input, guys.
