Tikka build

Looking into doing a tikka build and just looking for some advice. Does the tikka action need to be worked over (blueprinted/trued) or can you just build off of it. Is the t3 that much worse then the t3x. It’s just I can find used t3’s but not t3x’s

Just build on it. They do have a smaller diameter front shoulder that results in the barrel shank OD being smaller than others, (Tikkas are approx.1.125”ish versus 1.20-1.25”). This is caused by the “cosmetic only” little tappered portion at the front of the action. The quality control, extra length (1”long) tenon and the rigidity of these actions more than make up for any “differences” these action have. There is more than enough shoulder there and it doesn’t need to be turned off. You may “want” it turned off if you are wanting a larger barrel diameter at the shank or have a really heavy barrel contour that has a barrel shank larger than 1.125” for a long way past the shoulder. Barrels with contours simular to Rem Varmint, all the Palma’s, #5s down all work perfectly. Some people don’t like to turn down barrel shanks and can up sell up on some action work but it is not required because of any trueness or blueprinting reasons. It is purely cosmetic. Classic Ford versus Chevy, Savage nut versus shouldered, It’s different so it’s must be bad debate. Lol.

Tikkas are good to go right from the box. Just build it and be happy. The little cosmetic issue that people complain about is mostly covered by stock and scope anyway.
