Tikka 223 lite compact

I recently purchased a 223 varmint with thoughts of chopping it off to 20 inches. I have had a couple of these 223 Varmint. All have been good shooters. Now I’m wandering if I would be better served to just buy a lite compact in 223. Wandering about the barrel dimensions and accuracy. If anyone has experience with this I would appreciate it.

Just curious, why would you want to "chop off" the barrel to 20"?

If your Tikka Varmint model is like mine, i.e., an outstanding shooter, I would look for another option rather than messing with a great shooter. Great factory rifle shooters are not easy to obtain.

If I wanted a shorter, lighter, and more portable rifle I would consider the Tikka's Lites. My 223 Rem Tikka Lites shoot fantastic, and the rifles are very portable. With 60 Vmax bullets and H4895, 1/2 moa group are not difficult to achieve in my two model, out of the box Lite's. Varget also works very well with this bullet.

I have a Tikka Compact but it's not in 223 mine is chambered in 204, unfortunately Tikka no longer chambers them in 204. Like most all Tikka's it shoots well. Other than they come with a 20in barrel what dimensions are you wanting to know?

I was looking to thread for a suppressor at some point. The varmint has enough meat at the end to thread. Compact looks like the muzzle might be thick enough for a threading. Haven’t seen one up close.

Those 223 barrels sell pretty quickly for about $200 or so. Consider that cost, the cost of chopping and threading the end, and you are 3/4 of the way to a nut barrel or prefit

Muzzle dia. of my Tikka Compact is .652 which is enough for a 1/2x28 thread and most direct thread 223 suppressors are 1/2x28. But, if you plan to use a direct thread 6.5 or 30 cal suppressor those are generally 5/8x24 so you'll need to talk to the suppressor company you plan to use about a alternative mounting setup.
