throat polishing

Iosso is great. I use JB Products myself every 500 rounds or so. Patch impregnated with product on a slightly undersized brush per instructions. Works amazingly well at maintaining accuracy over several thousands of rounds of Palma loads. I use the same patch/brush approach when lapping tool marks out of bores that end up with them.

I polish mine with JB 500 strokes or more what ever number it takes before the gun get shot.. My free bore as moved.004 in 1000 rounds. When you look at my chamber it looks like it has not ben shot much. Never have had any copper in the barrel. Before I polished the chamber and throat they always coppered. Larry

Thanks, how are you applying? Drill with short cleaning rod?

I polish the the bore every 300-400 rounds. I follow the instructions printed on the tube. Put a very thin coat on a blue nylon (Iosso) brush and give it 20 strokes, then use patches to clean thoroughly. After all is removed I apply a patch with Kroil. I would not use a drill under any circumstances.

I use my bore scope to examine my bore before and after, so I know if there are areas to focus on. Nine out of ten times the instructions are sufficient to do a good job. You'll be able to feel the difference. It takes about 10-20 shots for the barrel to really "settle down" after polishing.

The only time I had to use extra efforts is when cleaning a Krieger 4 groove barrel or when I used to have a savage factory barrel. The new 5R barrels clean much easier. I wouldn't go back to those. I used to use JB but use Iosso because it works just as well, but comes in tooth paste tube which makes it more convenient.

When I had my Savage, and it was a copper magnet, I used to use Montana Extreme Copper Killer.

Good luck.

I do almost the same as Joe, the only difference is I do it every at 250-300 rounds. My 6mm Competition Match tactical rifle which I just checked 100 yard zero 2 days ago for a shoot coming up. Just over 4000 rounds, ragged hole 100 yard zero in prone and will hold moa at 1000 yards off the bench. My grouping at 840 on steel was tight, shot in prone.

I started using JB with a nylon brush and patch at each cleaning, every 40-60 rounds. I have not seen a downside. Keeps my throat clean and smoother, easier to clean, less copper build up, etc.

Should these pastes be used with nylon brush only? jd

When in doubt follow the instructions, Iosso paste calls for a nylon brush. Guess who makes those blue nylon brushes? You're right: Iosso. I only use nylon brushes, but I can't say they are better or there is anything wrong with the regular brass brushes.

One thing everyone forgot is after you use Isso or JB, make sure you clean it all out with Kroil! This is the only way to make sure it's all out or you will be Fire lapping your barrel. My 2 cents.
