Throat mics.

If anyone has experience from military, police or paintball team perspective, I would like to hear from you with regard to cost and effectiveness. Range isn't a concern, but clarity is.

Backstory is that my wife has Parkinson's, and it has started to affect her speech. It has become somewhat of a whisper, and she is very hard to understand. We've tried headsets with boom mics, various smart phone apps and are even looking at sign language as a possibility. However, we haven't tried a throat mic, but the options and prices are all over the place as each offering is the latest and greatest.

Any knowledge or even a different approach would be appreciated.

I wish you well finding a solution to a serious problem. I cannot offer a specific solution only an opinion based off using both in the past and unfortunately cannot provide you with the specific brands I used. However, noise cancelling boom mics are much easier for me to understand than throat mics. With that said hopefully someone will provide more specific information. If not, and it were me, I would probably try a throat mic in the hopes it provided at least a better solution if not perfect.

My mother has Parkinson's and has the same issue with speech. To further complicate things my father is hearing impaired. I will be watching the thread with interest. OP I wish you and your wife well and hope you find an answer to ease your situation

25 years ago I used a throat mike for several years. Don’t remember the brand but it worked very well with all the team members whispering. So the concept is workable. I have no idea of the cost. I would think current technology would be even better and perhaps cheaper. Good luck.

Things are looking up as far as the renewed research lately.

I wish your mother the best.
