Throat Length For .260 Rem

My friend and I are putting together a pair of .260's. We want to shoot the 130gr to 142gr bullets from the magazine. Does anyone have any advice for throat length.

Also, does the .260 have the case capacity to drive the 140's out at 600 yds. from a 26 inch barrel.

My two Pac Nor 260s when built were throated for 100 NBTs...,2.710") the std 260 is 9 twist..the 260 AI is 8 twist...the throat will only grow with use...the AI w/8 twist rocks with 140 Nosler Comps & 142 SMKs...the std 260 loves 130 Nosler ABs...yes the 260 case will launch 142s well past 1K yds...do the 8 twist..

I went the easy way and ordered reamer from Dave Kiff at PTG and let him decide the measurements. He suggested 260 Rem Match for my needs, and set it up for the bullet I requested. The throating was perfect, just above neck/shoulder junction, having Scenars jump about .020").

I'm sure Dave can meet your needs if you just tell him how tight a chamber you want, field use vs. bench use etc.), the bullets you're going to use and maximum OAL your magazine can take.

About chasing the lands, throat wear), you can have the bullet set further back than neck/shoulder junction if you're not afraid of the doughnut problem. Then you have more room to chase the lands.
