threading SS tubing .065 wall

Hi,
I need to do internal threads on 1 5/8" SS tubing, .065 wall. I guess I need a fixture to hold it in chuck? And what is optimal TPI for this thickness?

Man I would not even try to thread it. That schedule pipe very thin and work hardens quickly. It would develop cracks after a few cycles.
I would TIG weld it if that is an option.

Make your self a split collar or buy one from grainger or McMaster Carr to fit on the end of the tube where you will be threading. I have threaded 10 inch long tubing in my 3 jaw chuck using a collar to keep the pipe from flexing ( going out of round ) I did 20 threads per inch and it worked fine. Do your outside threaded piece first so you can measure it to fit in your internal threads. Just try it, it will work. I could only fit about 4 inches in my 3 jaw chuck and the rest stuck out, Thread at 75rpm.

If it's for a form 1 suppressor it probably won't be worth the effort. It'll likely suffer from a catastrophic failure upon firing.

Perfect, I'll get aluminum tube with ID = to OD of my project and mill a slot in it.
