Threading barrel & Muzzle brake on 18in Sporterized 1904 CG Swedish Mauser

It's my "New" Whitetail gun & I'm thinking about having it threaded to standard AR threads & using an drilled out A-2 Flashider/brake until I can find something better,,,, I love this gun but followup shots are damn near impossible,,, What do ya'll think ?

I can't believe that No One has any advice or at least an opinion on this

I wasn't the one that Sporterized it, my guess is it was done professionally in the 50's or 60's, well fitted Monte Carlo stock & low thumb safety, still cocks on closing

Sounds good to me. Send it to me and I will thread it for you!

Thx Ken but my buddy down the street LGS/Machinist is gonna thread it for me, thinking I may use a DPMS Jerry Miculek AR brake punched out for 6.5

so tell me more,,,
I was leaning towards the 1/2-28 because of all the different available style brakes to try,,, more affordable than the 5/8

I do factory installations for KDF. 1/2-28 is good up to .30 cal including magnums. Of course, at 18" on that particular barrel, 5/8 might make for a cleaner look, but 1/2" is fine. You don't really know until it is sitting on your bench and you can get a good look at it.

Thx Ken,,,, I wanna clean look, very lil' blueing left on barrel, so I was gonna try to go with a brake ''in the white" & get my buddy to mill it to match barrel, are there any economical brakes that you would recommend, I would prefer no downward ports ?

KDF's are ported all the way around. Don't know of any that fit your description, but I am sure they are out there.

Brownells and Midway have a few tons of brakes available, spend a little time on their sites and I bet you will find something that will work in your application.

Economical?? Whatsa matter, you got razor blades in your pockets? Reach in there and grab some dough and quit thinking custom work at off-the-rack pricing! ;)

Thx Ken
the gun will be used for some prone shooting so I don't want dirt blasting up,,,, as far as "razor blades" none to worry about just nothing in the pocket, took a bad fall back in March, broke scapula & rotatorcup, torn tendons & 3 cracked vertebre, just getting to where I can walk more than 30yds at a time & I'm not able to pull back my bowstring yet, shooting the Swede & my Cetme has been relatively painless though

& for the record, I'm a Craftsman myself, I build Custom fishing rods for my meager living

JUST KIDDING! That's why the winkie.
As far as bang for the buck, take a look at the Badger Micro FTE. They are getting real popular, work pretty good, and under $100. Might not be exactly what you are looking for, but no need to match/blend it and you can get it in 1/2 or 5/8 threading, and either time it or use a crush washer.

Thx Ken
Money has been a sensitive subject the last few months & I appreciate your advice very much & will be looking into the Badger
