Thread pitch micrometer ?

James I'd just get a set of thread wires. That's the way I ended up going. I have a thread mic but just don't use it.

I am using Starretts. Got them on ebay for 5 to 20 cents on the dollar. Since I got over the "learning curve" with them, my work has turned out better.
Any good condition American or Japanese brand will serve you well. Chinee stuff will probably work too, but I didn't want to see it in my tool box.

I have a full set of mitutoyo wires ive had for 20yrs. Few months ago i bought a shars thread mic off ebay brand new with a full set of anvils and standard for a friend to use while helping me. Surprisingly it is very good quality. I have a 0-1" and a 1-2". I was pleasantly pleased

Yes i am for the most part. Still using both getting the feel and measurements transferred over that i need but i forsee no more wires for me. I figured id just upgrade these mics if i liked em but i see no need just yet they work very well and repeat anytime

I have a set of import thread mics, they seem accurate, as compared to measuring with thread wires. Got them from Enco, the 1-2 and 2-3 come with standards.
I started with wires, but got real tired real fast of the pain in the butt it is to use them, and of searching for the dropped wire in my chip pan.

Thanks guys, I've used wires in the past and they are a real pain. Today I'm all thumbs it seems and just can't see going backwards when a micrometer is available yes at a cost, but seems more practical.

Here's what I'm ordering today for my future needs.

Ya, the interchangeable anvil type are definitely more versatile. I just wont give the chinese the money, and the quality anvil type are big $$$.

The supplier has paid the Chinese. Your money goes into the hands of the U.S. vendor ;)
