I know there's a lot of great opinions about the sightron siii 6-24 but what about the Burris XTR ll 5-25 how does it compare, glass quality, tracking ect. I know you can get it any first focal plane with illuminated reticle were you cannot do that on the sightron, I would really like to hear the opinions of some of the experience out there, this would be mounted on a 204 Varmint Rifle

Thanks anyway guys, through my own research I decided to go with the Sightron, slightly better glasses plus its made in Japan unlike the Burris made in the Philippines

I owned a Burris XTR, first series maybe 8yrs ago and didn't realize the length of the ocular lens housing combined with mag power ring would make it impractical for use on anything but the longest picatinny rail.

There are lots of considerations. Many tactical scopes will present difficulty when adapted to a small action receiver. I owned a Sako Vixen for about 20yrs. It was a compromise to find a scope for it. If your rifle is something like a Tikka T3 which is long-action, then no worries. Still, the long ocular designs are a pita in the real world, and forget ever using one on an AR.

I like your choice. The Sightron 6-24 SIII is outstanding varmint glass. I have a two of them and I've never found myself wishing for better on a varmint rig. What reticle have you decided on? I like the MOA-2, personally.

I chose the illuminated MOA 2, I'm completely satisfied

Bought it from tactical wholesalers they were about a $100-$150 cheaper than anybody else.

Athlon Ares 4.5-27x coming in Mid-July now, they've made some upgrades to production. Probably worth the wait, unless you just need something to use earlier this Summer.

The Athlon Midas and Helos scopes are superb values in optical quality, each having HD glass and fantastic coating. Great features and build quality also. Lifetime warranty with work done in Olathe KS, fully transferable. Midas is SFP, Helos is FFP, both illum, both mil-rad or moa. Made in China to very high standards. Under $600 for Midas or Helos; Ares will be in the $800ish category.

Great choice, you'll like it. I have Slll lrmoaffp 6-24 and was amazed at the clarity of the glass. I do miss the zero stop and would like to see a low power of 4 + a 1 moa reticle, but I'm quite happy with mine. I hope to compare it's glass soon with my ,yet unmounted 3-24x 52 March.
