Thoughts on this Rifle for sale

I am very interested in this rifle.I do not know much about Stolle actions as I have never seen or used one? What are your thoughts on it? What would you consider a fair price? How high would you go on bidding?

Description

For sale here is 1 (one) Custom Jarrett rifle in .223 Remington. It starts with a Stolle Panda action, no more to say about that. The barrel is stainless with medium polish finish and is approx. 25" long. The trigger is, I believe, a Jewell with safety. The stock was reported to me to be a McMillan - obviously thumbhole style with a rounded forend (not benchrest/beavertail). It has Kelbly rings and the set-up as shown without scope weighs right at 10 lbs.

This gun is in excellent to like-new condition. It appears to have been fired very little - bore is like new. As for accuracy, I can only guess it to be excellent as there are no targets available.

Please note that there is no box, nor manuals/paperwork with this gun. Only the gun with rings.

Well it's obviously NOT the sellers personal rifle (probably a trade in to a dealer). Not knowing what trigger and stock (FOR CERTAIN) will affect price as will unknown round counts. Jarrett is good but no better than another quality Smith ,so I wouldn't pay a premium vs another top Smith. EDIT TO ADD ...He does however offer a 3 Day inspection period.

two biggies...
what twist what bbl maker
and
call jerret, and see if he has data on the build...

Stolle Panda's have the most wins in Pt. Blank BR.....they are aluminum with steel inserts.
Used unpolished Rt/Rt Panda ~$1100/ used Jewell w/safety ~$150/ Kelbly rings & base ~ $150/ Stock-that's not a Mcmillan ~ $75/ Barrel ~$50 (unknown means a crapshoot)
No extra for the Jarrett factor.....way overpriced for what you get.

I believe that is a McMillan Competition stock designed by Richard King for silhouette shooting. I don't believe they are available anymore.
It appears to have been a silhouette competition rifle at one time. I'm willing to bet that's a bottom safety Jewel trigger, but couldn't guarantee it.

I agree that it's over priced. But it is cool!

Personally, I would be happy giving $1500 and wouldn't want to go over $1700. But keep in mind I really admire the man that I believe designed the stock.

What DBailey said about the stock is probably correct, the texture shown in the pics matches a Mcmillan sporter that I have. Don't know what your intended use is, but shooting it off a front bag will be challenging....those rounded fore-ends tend to rock and roll.

I also think the price is to high.Join benchrest central and you can pick up something even nicer for that price. I am with dbailet as he is asking top dollar for it. You could probably have one built new for a few hundred more. Just a note,I think its a hart barrel.

Lots of guessing, assumptions, and unknowns for a rig like that.

Unknown barrel maker, or anything else about it.

Jewell triggers are pretty obvious. The fact that he can't even tell what kind of trigger is in it makes me wonder about everything else he says.

Stock is "reported" to be a McMillan? Pull the barrelled action and see what's stamped in the bottom of the barrel channel (most early McMillans had the company name, the new ones now have the name of the person who ordered it). While you have it apart, take a better look at that trigger and figure out what it is. ;)

"I can only guess that accuracy is excellent". WTH??? What kind of statement is that?? Say accuracy is unknown, that's fine. But to assume "excellent", especially after everything else that he is talking out his azz about?

I'd have a hard time being interested in it for more than the value of the action, period. Everything else is way too unknown to even start putting figures to it.

David,
You are right about the stock design being mine. McMillan did produce them and this looks like there paint.
Jarrett buidls OUTSATNDING rifles. Anyone that knows about custom guns knows that Kenny never lat anything out of his shop that was not top notch. But Kenny found out like LHSmith noted - it wasn't made to be shot off a bench. This is one of the finest offhand stock you will ever hold.
Being a 223, I bet it was only a "fun' gun as too light for Silhouettes.
This gun was built by one of the best gunsmiths, with one of the best actions, and in one of the best stocks - for it's purpose. The price is not too far off - if you have a need for it.

Pretty sure that's a Jewell trigger....I know of no one else who makes a bottom safety...and those rings are Kelbly.....so the only unknown is the barrel...and even if it's a Kreiger, Bartlien , Hart, without borescoping before buying, most knowledgeable buyers will assign it little value.

Jarrett makes his own barrels.
Only thing now is twist. The stock dates to pre bullets over 60 grains for 223. There was a 60 Hornady flat base back then. I bet a 1-14".

Good feedback/information guys. Still on the fence but I have a few days to think about it. Sounds like $1,500 would be a good price. Thanks :)

I think, too, that $1500.00 is more in line with today's values. Stolle Actions are top notch when they leave Kelbly's. Like others have said, the barrel is of unknown life and its value depends on your intended use. A new quality barrel with chambering, crowning, and threading will cost close to $500.00 but it may not be needed right away. The buyer has to be the judge of that.
