thoughts on the desert arms srs covert 308

Im constantly checking out the latest greatest new equipment and I keep wandering. how in the world can desert arms say a 308 bullpup with a 16" barrel can engage targets effectively at 1000 yards? no matter the quality of components it seems a stretch that that short a barrel can effectively shoot at that distance. I'm no expert so maybe it does but I'm curious what your thoughts are and maybe what people have been achieving with it at 1000.

It doesn't matter what the make or model of the firearm is, unless it has some sort of super-duper barrel technology that somehow improves velocity without dangerous pressure. The muzzle velocity is what will determine whether a particular load will perform to a specific range. I doubt that a 16" barrel will enable a safe .308 load to efficiently and effectively shoot to 1,000y.

I typically use a 26" barreled (1:12" bore) .308, shooting 175 SMK at 2,675 fps. Or, a 30" barreled (1:13" bore) Palma rig shooting 155 SMK at 2,900 fps.

The 26" barreled rig, using 168 grain Federal Gold Medal Match factory ammo, goes wonky past 800y. Group size goes from sub-MOA to garage door.

I think a 20" barrel would be pushing one's luck at 800y with the right load. 16" at 1,000y? I'd need to see/hear proof. 8)

Sounds like typical advertising hype dreamed up by someone who never pulled a trigger in their life.

To their credit they did not specify the size of the target at 1000 yards. Maybe a house or warehouse sized building? Who knows? Who cares? I ignore this bulls**!

Thats kinda what i thought but Im no expert. I read a lot on here about what everyones using for their specific discipline and i have yet to see a competitor running a 16" barrel in 308 out to 1000. Seems that 1000 is pushing the 308's range even with everything in place. long barrel, light wind, perfect range estimation etc etc. so just the short barrel taken out of the equation would seem to be enough to say no way.
