thoughts on the .260

what do you guy think about the .260.i read an article in SHOOTING TIMES that compared the .260 to the .308. i think that the .260 would be an awesome round. what do you guys like about it? dislike? would there be an advantage by going with a .270, or a .280 instead? thanks, Brian

i think a .260 rem is an awesome round. i hunted with one this past fall. deer from 10yds to around 200. none made it farther than 30 yds. the 6.5 bullets have the best sectional density per bullet weight than any other caliber. it takes a 190 grain bullet in a .308 to match the 140grain 260,hornady manual). they just have a lot of punch and penetration for bullet weight, plus i think they shoot flatter. i used 120 grain sierra SPT this fall, they never let me down. they shoot flat, expand well, and still get penetration. not one deer stopped a bullet, but had lots of damage where it mattered. I am sure the 100 hp do well too, used those in a 6.5-284 on deer out past 300 yds. the 140 grn bullets are ok on deer, but they seem a bit "hard" and don't do the damage the 120's do. deer seemed to run farther on average but still didn't go very far. i think the 140's are perfect on elk and larger game. you can't go wrong with a 260 rem.
