Thoughts on LRP 6.5 Creed Lapua brass

I see that Brownell’s has 6.5 Creedmoor large primer Lapua brass in stock. Is this what Lapua should have made first for this caliber instead of the small primer brass? I know I’m interested because I have a Defiance Stryker Ridge action that was made with the larger firing pin. I hope to hear some reviews. I just purchased two boxes of Peterson lrp to try, so it will be awhile before I get to try the Lapua. Thanks for your thoughts.

SRP primer output has generally proven sufficient in the 6.5 if you have good case fill and use an extruded powder. Hang fires and misfires in cold weather with ball powders and especially low case fills are known with SRPs.

So basically, if you are using a hunting load that has ball powder and low case fill, then you really need a large primer. For 90% of the rest of us, a SRP offers better brass life and/or warmer charges.

Thanks for the reply!
I knew the large primer was was supposed to be better for cold weather hunting rounds, but didn’t realize it pertained to the ball powders.
Do you think Lapua is making the lrp brass because of all the factory actions that have not had the firing pins bushed?

No, I think they’re making it because someone wrote a big check. The Lapua website doesn’t show LRP brass, suggesting it’s a one-off.

SR mag and LR primers are nearly the same thickness (0.025 vs 0.027”) so I don’t see bushing as related.
