Thoughts on a Cooper Model 54 Classic in .22-250?

I found a brand new Cooper Model 54 in .22-250 that I'm considering buying (for a great price). It's the classic model, so it's a repeater, and it's a beautiful gun! Anyone have a Cooper Model 54 that could comment on what they like and don't like about them? I think it would be nice to have a repeater, but I'd probably rather have a .221 fireball or something like that. Any thoughts on the .22-250 as a general varmint/predator gun compared to the 20-calibers or smaller-cased .22 calibers?

Cooper 54... what's not to like!

I have owned many 22-250's and it s a classic cartridge.

Some time back, I took the 12 step program at "22-250 Anonymous", and swore I would never own another... not anything wrone, it was just that everyone had one (or more :( ), and I had a great 15 pound .220 Swift, a great 16 pound 6mm Rem, and a bunch of other varmint rifles.

I went three years without having a 22-250, but I fell off the wagon, and now have another - a mint 700 VSF that shoots in the 3's.

You cannot go wrong with a 22-250. They are accurate and very easy to load for.

The 22-250 is a fine varmint cartridge and I have had several in my life and still do. You will love it. I have a friend who has several model 21 I believe and they are single shot in .221fb,.223,and 6ppc . The .221FB is the most accurate factory rifle I have ever shot. I wouldn't think twice about getting that rifle especially if you get a great price on it.

I have two "single shot" Coopers (.221 M38 Phoenix and a 21 Varminter in .204). Been eyeballing a lightly-used Model 22V .220 Swift @ a LGS, but now would really rather have a repeater. So, yeah, go for it; especially if the price is right.
Although, beware: nobody owns just one Cooper for very long!

I agree with both points mentioned above. And, the 22-250 is an excellent overall varmint cartridge.

I had a Model 22 in 22-250ai and it was a great rifle. I like Coopers and have owned 5, though I have pared that down to a single 6ppc. You should buy it, you'll love it. Plus, it will retain its value if you're buying used. Beware though, Cooper's have a way of multiplying in your safe, next thing you know - you'll have 3 or 4.

And you can get a 22 trainer to match:) I've lived every cooper I have ever owned.(the number is embarrassing)

I ordered a Cooper Jackson Hunter mod 54 in 6mm Rem a couple years ago.Mine has the synthetic stock and stainless barrel.I use it for coyotes and whitetails. It is exceptionally accurate and handles well.It has a VX-3,3.5x10 with an moa turret.Although not fur friendly,it gets er done on coyotes and then some.I already owned a Sako AII in 22-250 before the Cooper, and it is also one fine rifle, and caliber.A Cooper 54 in 22-250 is an excellent choice IMO.You won't be disappointed. The Classics are beautiful rifles, and I chose synthetic/stainless for it's resistance to our Canadian winter weather.I have nothing negative to say about Cooper rifles, they are superb.
