thompson venture bolt gun problem

i recently was asked to sight in a new Thompson center in .30tc cal.for a friend!it went smoothe final 5 shots @ 1"!so i ordered a .270 for me as my lightest deer gun these days was 10 #. mine came, sight in great, however 1st and 2nd shot at deer misfired,no primer mark 3rd shot dropped him. factory ammo primer depth fine.horror stories on t/c recalls.anyone else have this problem?you know smith and Wesson owns Thompson !!

Re: thompson

had similar problems with a H&R rifle once...ended up being me not pulling the trigger completely rearward...had to pull trigger shoe fully rearward in order for transfer bar to clear to allow firing pin to hit...might look into it..you may be releasing the trigger too soon after trigger breaks..a common problem for people that historically shot bolt guns then switch to a single shot type rifle with a transfer bar. to me it also explains why you had no firing pin strike marks on the primer

The Venture isn't a single shot, that's the Encore or Contender. The Venture is their entry level bolt gun. Either take it to a gunsmith at your expense or send it back to T/C and they will fix it.

yea...just noticed that..i believe his first post just said thompson...not venture bolt gun, i believe he edited it after i had made my post

according to the "edit post time stamp"

Considering the TC recall on the Venture (http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Category4_750001_750051_777653_-1_757978_757978_image) I'd return it to them for inspection and necessary repair. >:(
This trigger thing with TC make me nervous. Especially in view of current events; we don't need mechanical problems causing accidental discharges (or worse)

Smith and Wesson bought them out quite a while ago.

And Beretta owns Sako/Tika, Remington owns Bushmaster, Leupold owns Redfield, Burris owns Steiner Optics, and I think somebody bought out Winchester too. They are all gonna be intertwined before long...

Anyhow, there is a Lifetime guarantee on ALL Thompson Center firearms.

You should be asking Thompson Center Customer Service this question. Taking the time to read our opinions just makes solving the problem take longer ;)

If they want you to send it in, they fix it and ship it back to you for free. No need for use of FFL's when repairing firearms so mail is directly to them and directly back to you.

I even looked up their customer service number for you :) It is 1-866-730-1614

S&W has been historically bad with customer service. I personally saw a S&W polymer pistol turn to dust when fired at -30 degrees. Their response, "sorry about your luck, buy a new pistol". A frame failure and they refused to honor their warranty. Pistol was less than 30 days old. Look at what they did during the days of the huge class action lawsuit. Sold a heap of pistols to HUD for less than cost and said the customers could make up the difference. When I was LE, I refused to even carry a set of their cuffs. Screw S&W, they've done it to the shooting public long enough.
